Home to the remains of Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib, cousin of the Prophet Muhammad and first Imam of Shiism and fourth Caliph of Islam (656-661), it is an important place of pilgrimage for Shiites.
Free access. Loan of a chador at the entrance for women. remember to put on socks too 😉. Possibility to take photos and videos with the smartphone without problem but avoid large cameras. It is still possible to enter with a big camera but you will have to pass a small interview to justify it, then you will be loaned a ''press'' card and someone will follow you to watch you. Prohibited videos with a big camera.

Huge construction going on towards the lake. Looks like this site will be even more impressive in the near future. Similar to the one in Karbala but still impressive and construction is almost finished (opposed to Karbala where it looks like they’ve just only started).
