nice little pull off on rural road. close by the river.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Quiet level spot Road dead ends at the trail head 1/2 mile up the road. Some traffic overnight to and from the trail head. One car knocked on our window at 3am and took off. Saturday night so probably some people goofing around but still a bit unnerving.
Report Check-InStayed here for one night. There was another campervan here when we arrived but there is plenty of space for a few vans or a big rig. We tried the spot closer to the highway (with the fire ring) but it was pretty wet so opted for this one. Was very quiet but in the morning a few trucks were driving by, seems they they are doing some construction on the washed out road further down. Would stay here again.
Report Check-InEasy larger pull off. Quiet with sounds of the river. 2 bars Verizon. Showed up very late and never heard another car drive by.
Report Check-InGem of a location. Medium-sized gravel pullout on a relatively quiet road, suitable for 2 vans or small motorhomes, maybe 3 if you squeeze. Slight incline throughout, although a few areas are tolerably level. You can hear the river below but vegetation prevents access. 2-3 bars Verizon, with sufficient internet bandwidth behind it for casual streaming. This location is outside the national park boundary, and a very nice overnight spot for getting an early start at Madison Falls.
Report Check-InExcellent spot to get an early start on the trail to the hot springs, which starts a mile down the road at Madison falls.
Report Check-InStayed here one night - larger pull off along the road. Looking at Gaia GPS this is technically within the National Forest boundary so we decided to give it a go. Got there around 9pm and left at 5am and had no issues. Rangers absolutely patrol the trailhead up the road so don’t try to stay within the park. Olympic is super bitchy about overnight parking
Good ATT service, videos loaded well. Quiet enough for one night and decently level and felt safe enough. My advice would be get there late and leave early
Report Check-Inthis spot is technically within the small section of National Forest that runs through this area and there are no signs that indicate that overnight parking isn’t allow. only staying here for a quick overnight. gravel pull off. quiet road. good at&t service.
heads up: if you go down the road 0.5 miles to the Madison Falls Trailhead (which is really beautiful), rangers do come through to ensure you’re not camping there and there are clear signs that say no parking.
The first night I stayed here I felt safe. There was an adventure truck already posted up. I fell asleep to the sound of the river.
The second night I drove past on 101 to grab groceries in town and saw two park rangers posted up where the now construction site is. I went to go to the trail head to make dinner later by the river ( you cannot camp there) and drove past one ranger parked near the first spot which I would not stay at based on reviews. After finishing up dinner and cleaning up a ranger looped the trailhead parking lot and had a real stink face. Drove to check out pull offs near crescent lake and the only two cars parked a ranger had pulled over with lights on clearly telling them to leave. There are no signs posted and I don’t know what their problem is but on my two month road trip I have never experienced such assholes. I did find a random camp spot while exploring that is very steep at the begging but turns into a nice little spot. I’ll add it and post photos tomorrow. Please keep this spot clean!
I have no doubt locals have issues with meth heads, homeless people and disrespectful humans sleeping in these lots and that would scare me too being so close to home. However it’s not fair to penalize all travelers especially when we are following rules and keeping spots clean.
I don’t have solution but I wish you all happy adventures!
Report Check-InClean and quiet, large gravel pullout next to the river with some river views mostly obstructed by shrubs. Two other campers showed up after we did, no issues.
Report Check-InGreat, quiet spot to stop for the night. Large gravel pull off. Area is just down the road from the parking area for the Elwha rainforest hiking trails. (Camper Van traveler)
