Description

We found Andy on google, his 150 4.5/5 star reviews convinced us to text him. After sending him a text he gave us a call soon after and we were very happy to hear he spoke fluently English (first mechanic in South America I guess). He and his father helped us out and gave us many good tips and tricks to prevent future maintenance, we used a couple of hours of their time and he did not charge us for that. Tough we bought some beers to show our appreciation. They are knowledgable and honest people and can help with most cars. We could even use their shower/toilet and sleep in front of their garage (see other post on Ioverlander for more info). Overall super recommendable!

We went to Andy with a mechanical issue on Saturday and we spent all weekend working together to get it fixed. Andy is super kind and generous and we were able to sleep in the van inside his workshop, with clean toilet and shower, which just fit out 2.5m high camper. Really nice guy who also loves a good chat. Highly recommended if you need some work done in San Gil.

andy fixed my faulty abs system of my hilux (the unbreakable, haha). very professional and straight forward approach, scanner, problem located, connector welded to cable. all with a smile and fairly priced. highly recommended. if there is something he cannot do in his workshop he knows where and who to go to.

also was allowed to „camp“ in his workshop as it was getting dark. great talk, some beers. lovely company!

Andy is a really good mechanic and 100% reliable! He analyses the problems first and tell you what is really required. Go there if you have a problem with your car!

Andy is a really nice guy, speaks English very well and probably is in most cases a good mechanic. However, I would not go here with something complicated. When things don’t go how they should go and become more difficult, he doesn’t have the knowledge/experience/perseverance to solve them. We ended up going to a different mechanic to get the problem solved. But I think he is a good mechanic to solve the straightforward things.

Great experience and service!
We stopped at Andy’s Car Service with a disconnected damper of our Truck Camper after the connection point and bushing broke of the rear axle. While Andy is focusing on cars, he still helped us in finding a repair shop capable of constructing and welding on the broken part and accompanied us for the rest of the day. As he speaks perfect English it allowed us to get a high quality repair within one day and are back on the road, without being overcharged. This would not have been possible without his support. Highly recommended!!!

Andy was super helpful in diagnosing a problem with our Ford Ranger air-con. A previous mechanic wanted to switch out the whole unit. He escorted us to his aircon specialist, who immediately diagnosed and solved the problem, which in turn solved another problem with our idling.
Aircon specialist gave us local prices, and Andy didn't even want to charge us, but we gave him $50,000 for all his help and time. Andy is a very friendly and chatty guy. What we liked about him was he was happy to admit when he didn’t know something and take us to someone who did, and he’s adamant that tourists aren’t ripped off. These traits can be few and far between, so it was really appreciated. Now our aircon blows icy cold!
