Description

This point is the end of the trail. To get up here you will need a 4x4 with high clearance and low range; we had to use all 3 diff locks at one point! The trail is not too bad until about 4400m, when it starts to deteriorate. There are amazing views of the Salar from this trail even if you don't get all the way to the top (4636m). There are a few flat areas to the side of the trail where you could camp and may be sheltered from the wind if you don't mind the altitude.

Latest Check-Ins

The route to the view point is well marked, however the route the the top of the volcano wasn’t. We made it to the top, but I’m sure a guide will take you on the paths rather than through the undergrowth.
Recommend long trousers, sunscreen and plenty of water on the warmer days.

This trek is incredible but puts your mental difficulty. The first Mirador is 4300 m and the other at 4900m. Very windy but you can find some places sheltered. We saw an old camp with rock to make a fire in the middle of the road to go to the top. I am a smoker and I did it. I am very proud because the view is amazing, so if I did it, everyone can do! For the mummies, it was closed, the lady where you buy the ticket has "tourist info" (just before turning right to go to the parking lot) you have forgotten to give them .. so do not forget to ask for the key! We saw a little bite and it was very impressive, I saw the skeleton of a man and those of children .. To go back, we took 5h30 and 10 km, take your time and enjoy the view it is really worth it! We paid 30 bb per person. There was no control on the road for tickets so no problem, that's very well without a guide!

Definitely worth the drive if you have a sturdy 4x4 with lockers and good tires. The trail is very rocky and rutted. Nothing scary, just slow going and you need tp be careful not to bust you tires or your undercarriage.

Amazing views and a few good campsites on the way.

For reference we did the trail in a Toyota Tacoma 4x4 with 33" tires, no problem.
