Description

AVOID. GO THROUGH SAN JUAN DE DIOS INSTEAD. We were driving from El Ceibo to Flores when maps.me told us to take all 17km of this route through San Antonio. It's a dirt road in terrible condition. After driving very slowly for about 2km the road narrowed. Having seen dozens of folks with machetes and a few wanderers (who weren't working on fields and were digging through trash), we decided it was too risky. A local later told us that robberies occur all the time on this road.

Latest Check-Ins

Yeah really no problems. I drove at end of day sun was setting. Still some girls walking alone and such so I don't think it's all that dangerous.

first half of the road is good hard gravel with a few potholes (if going to Flores) second half is perfect asphalt. By motorbike this is the obvious shortcut.

No problem at all, only 8 km are rocky dirt road when you come from the south, but if you drive slowly no problem. Otherwise it is asphalt.

We rode this road today by bike. When you come from Flores roadworkers are paving the road now with supersmooth asphalt. They have done about 6 km now and after that it ‘s recently graded.
When you ride from the other direction it is a bumpy and rocky dirtroad indeed but there are big billboards that they will pave the complete road.

The route is beautiful. All the people where very friendly, waived or used their honks. You pass a few little villages with tienda’s, comedors and schools.
Absolute the opposite of sketchy …

Very ok for Bicycles, 29" and 700c x45. If you don't like people walking around with Machetes, central america might be rough for you... We stayed with a local family who told us that the road has been dangerous at night but also spoke about how dangerous mexico was, so just like anywhere else probably best to travel during the day. happy trails

Thanks for this warning! We drove a few bumpy kilometres of it from St Elena, but turned around for the smooth detour through San Francisco (and San Juan de Dios).

I didn’t realize I’d taken this road until later on. Yeah it’s bumpy but manageable. Didn’t feel dangerous at all, I gave an old gentleman a ride for a few minutes to save him from the sun. Smiles all the way!

Very sketchy, bette take another one.

Camino de terracería, mejor agarrar otro.

No issues for us. Nothing sketchy or that stood out.

We rode that route with bicycles today and it was nothing special. Just a few villages along and people greeting friendly.
But it's bumpy indeed.

Report Check-In

We did not take this route (don’t know how it is) but the one through San Juan de Dios, which is in great condition!

Report Check-In

We drove this road today from Flores south without any problems. The road is wide now but still a bumpy dirt road. 4wd not necessary but high clearance recommended.
