Spent a quite night here, only a few cars, cows and sheeps passed by. You can stay more or less weherever you want on this road. Lots of space also for big rigs and some grassy areas for tents. Felt very safe, locals waved when passing by. Simple but good and not so high in altitude as the spot in laguna Quilotoa. Recommendable

We slept in a spot nearby. It was right next to the road and looked like a dried out riverbed.
We had a quiet night but were woken up at 6:30am by a local family which warned us about robberies in this area.
A few hours later a local farmer came and asked us to pay her 50$ for sleeping on her land. For us this spot looked like a pull out on public land, no fence, no sign
After lots of heated discussion and trying to explain that that's simply way too much she wanted our bedcover instead. We ended up giving her one of our blankets.
Anyway, not sure if we just got unlucky or if the locals generally don't want people to camp in this area.
If you decide to camp here make sure to bring presents/small money for the locals...
