Something not right?

Description

An abandoned campground. Still some pit toilets, shelters and picnic tables. Water is no longer working. Shelters also big enough for tents. Sign with campground rules but we saw noone during our stay of several days. You can stay super close to Kluane Lake on the shore itself. Amazing place, super quiet. Good AT&T signal.

been there for 4 nights. really calm and quiet. not a lot of people, the road to access is a little strange but okay
pits toilets are really clean, new tables, new gravel, and access to the lake.
discussed with someone from the municipality, maybe it will be a paid campsite in the future, but it will take time
enjoy the place, don't leave trashes.

Top spot
We spoke to locals, seems the campground will be opened again
New gravel in many spots, new picnic tables. We spent 2 fantastic nights, walking alongside the lake is marvelous, very good for dogs.
Good cell service

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot, as described below. We would happily pay to stay here if/when they are up and running as a regular campground. Walk out towards the lake as far out as you can and turn to look back- you can see the glaciers.

Report Check-In

We decided to check this place out with our 33’ 5th wheel. Whe you exit the highway, our GPS and Google maps both directed us to take the road up the hill immediately to the right- don’t! Take the road on the left which is straight, flat and wider and then turn left onto Copper Lily Way. There is a small hill down but the road is good and we had no trouble towing into the campground. As everyone says, it appears there is some renovation happening. We found a small roadway down to the lakeside and camped down there on what was originally part of the lake. The ground is good and solid. A pickup with a truck bed camper came in a few hours after us. Starlink did not work on the roof but did work when we set it on the ground. Could be the wind - it is almost always windy here - but, no bugs!

Report Check-In

Excellent free campsite. There's a few spots for vehicles, some open land for tenting, and a large covered patio. Pit toilets are nice and clean. It looks like they're doing some serious renovations and I wouldn't be surprised if they open up for paid camping sometime this year.

Report Check-In

Campground still open, still free. There's clearly been some upgrading of the campground with new stone on site driveways and new picnic tables. Only a couple of vans stayed the night. Someone drove through the campsite on a little ATV with two white dogs running along... seemed like a camp host checking on the campground. But nobody approached us. On the way out in the morning, noticed a box affixed to the gate with a $ sign on it. Wasn't sure if we should have put a donation in the box or not. Campground in very good shape. Many mosquitoes and rain so I never got a chance to walk around or get near the water. Picked site #13 because it was open and level. Some cell service. Diesel nearby.

Report Check-In

morning view
the road continues past the improving construction of the campground past the shelters, it's fine for a regular minivan with decent tires.

Report Check-In

perfect. minivan got to the beach easy. some guys were drinking at the gazebo but they didn't bother us and we were able to sleep soundly all night there was even a little bit of cell reception and we watched some very blurry Netflix last night in the van before we fell asleep

Report Check-In

Maybe be a bit wary if travelling alone. Got advised to sleep in one of the abandoned cabins due to grizzlies in area. Woken up at 2am by drunks knocking on the door asking about our sexuality and wanting to start a fire. Other than that, the place is beautiful and looks like the local community is working to bring the campground back to life.

Report Check-In

Unbelievable place! As described, narrow road opens into wide open area on lake. Windy so no bugs could stick for long. 2-3 bars cell service. Only one other camper here.

Report Check-In

We spent a quiet night there as well,
added a picture from the camp (for davelikestobike ,previous comment, at the end of the 🌈).

Report Check-In

Still able to camp for free. A lady on a four wheeler stopped me as I was coming in and said that it's fine to stay just don't start any fires because everything is so dry. I parked all the way out by the water and that's definitely where the mosquitos are, the whole van is covered in them and I don't even want to go outside. Everything else is good, sunset tonight is 12:04AM so hopefully there's some midnight sun. Don't make any messes at this places it's nice here.

Report Check-In

We didn't stay here, only bc there are guys there cleaning up so we were wondering if it'll be opening as a campground again.

Report Check-In

awesome location with unbelievable views every way you look! we stayed right by the lake and it was pretty level however be aware of wind!! it is crazy windy over here. we walked around and it felt safe. any size rig can fit here but the way in can be hard for anything taller than 13ft because of low wires.

Report Check-In

Still nice here. No mosquitoes and we haven’t seen a bear here. There was no one else around. Very private.
We got stuck with our 4WD because there was still 2 feet of snow between the entrance of site 13 and the lake. Fortunately we had a shovel and shovelled our way out and a little bit more. Should be easy to go through now for you guys if you have a 4WD SUV. If you have a 2WD make sure to clear the snow a little bit more to not get stuck.
Camp site itself is still easy to access even with a RV.

Report Check-In

Beautiful views and easy access in an RV. No one else there when we went.

Very nice place, as described. Big roof for rainy days :)
Pit toilets are OK. Mobile signal good 👍

Report Check-In

Still as others have described the place. Very good camp spot with room for all. Let’s keep this place open by keeping it clean.

AMAZING! A must stop! Beautiful spot on the lake. Gorgeous sunset and sunrise. I little windy but totally worth it. Bears in the area. Enjoy this fun stay!

Report Check-In

Great place - super quiet - really windy today so definitely no mosquitos. I’m the only one here.

Report Check-In

This is an amazing place to camp. Unfortunately right now on the day I’m here it’s super strong winds. Feels hurricane-like outside actually. But I don’t mind a night in. My little trailer is rocking pretty hard.
But there is no one around, so I can run my generator to my hearts content.
I would def stop here again.

Fantastic location out on the gravel spit. Solid ground, nice breeze, spectacular views. Perhaps my favorite wild camping spot on our BC/Yukon/Alaska road trip so far.

Report Check-In

Wonderful spot! We stayed on a spot by the lake. Windy but not a mosquito in sight.

Report Check-In

Abandoned campground. Tables still in sites Quiet .One with mosquitoes . Near Kluane lake

Report Check-In

This was a great find with easy access off the highway. We stayed lakeside where there is a lot of room for all kinds of rigs. Enter the lakeshore through “site 13”. 2-3 bars of Verizon service.

Report Check-In

very good and nice place, we didn't sleep, but a long Lunch break, alone, beautiful views, very quite

Report Check-In

Almost directly on the lake. Very flat and lot of space. We are on an old site #13.

Report Check-In

It’s peaceful and kinda magical here. You get the vibes of being at a zombie summer camp. Things are scattered about an abandoned but it’s clean. I’d avoid the vaulted toilets unless you want an adventure.
My vehicle was too tall to fit in the pavilion so I drove a trail past it out towards the lake and found a 1 story log cabin. I wonder if it was the camp hosts cabin. Two of the three windows are bashed out but a wood stove and shelving unit remain. There’s an outhouse behind the log cabin if you are brave.
Im currently parked in the “driveway” of the log cabin. Glad I did not park on the shores of the lake as it’s deluged rain tonight.

Come hang out, film a volg, have a picnic, bring bug spray.

Report Check-In

As described. We drove through site 13 of the old campground and out onto the beach. The lake seems low and there is a lot of shore. Good gravel to drive on, no problem with 2wd. Very quiet except for the caribou that came splashing by! Good Verizon/Bell.

Report Check-In

what a great find. stayed one night on our way to Alaska and we'll stay here again on our way back. beautiful views.
as described. tons of space. even the sites are still numbered. also a large open field with a pavilion. we opted to stay under the pavilion in our minivan.
pit toilets looked gross to us we did not use them and the water did not work either. a little bit of cell service for us but more on the southern side of the camp.
leave no trace, keep it clean, etc!
