This is a local spot that I am semi hesitant to share on here. But super epic views with a river to swim in and listen to at night. Does get crowded during the days and especially during the weekends. Any 2wd even a car will make it here. The sand looks deep but it not bad!
You’ll see a spot halfway that says no trailers past this point so I wouldn’t go past that point if you have a trailer. And be careful next to the river with soft sand or you will get stuck. But I have seen cars make it down here
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Probably my favorite spot I’ve ever camped at. So beautiful if you don’t mind the sand
Report Check-Inthis place DOES NOT ALLOW overnight camping. the water is contaminated. there’s a homeless encampment with people on bad dr ugs and they come out at night and will try to rob you. this place needs to be removed. cops came and raided everyone’s camps
Report Check-InThis place IS absolutely beautiful, made it down in my 5-window skoolie. Brought my dog here for the water because it’s really hot right now BUT a guy mentioned “your dog might get sick because of the water algae” and that terrified me enough to not stay, so be careful. Not sure if that’s accurate or not, I didn’t SEE any algae growing and the current was active but I didn’t risk it, super sad.
Report Check-InFantastic place! Judging from the sign and map, camping may not be allowed there. River had low water and was extremely muddy but still adds to the scene. We had 4wd on while driving on the loose sand next to river, but may not be required to get there. There are ruins, petroglyphs and dinosaur tracks all in walking distance. Saw few tortoise on our way there. Great times. Collected three bags of trash, cans and toilet paper to give back a little.
Report Check-InAs many have noted before about directions and road conditions. Loose sand… it’s a local hit as well so be kind to the locals. That sounded stupid!?? Respect the locals maybe… hhhahaaa
Report Check-InSeriously such an amazing spot. Thank you for posting it, let’s keep it clean out of respect! Loved staying here. Our 24ft RV made it down no problem. Just stayed out of the sand that was deep
Report Check-Invery nice spot. Collected some garbage for good karma. People, pick up after yourself!
Report Check-InCamped here 2 nights.
Really cool spot along the river.
The water was freezing cold and the river current looked really strong so we didn’t swim, just hung out in the shallow water.
There are plenty of spots to set up camp in the area, hiking locations along the 5-mile dirt road you drive out on, and an abandoned structure (part of a building) with graffiti to check out.
The area is really popular for ATVs on weekends and some people came to hang out by the river. Not many other people camping though so we had the spot to ourselves overnight. Saw another post about ants in the sand- there are plenty, but they didn’t bite at all or bother us much, even when we had lunch by the water.
Also had decent cell service near the camping site, but no service right by the water. My friend and I had 4 dogs with us and were able to keep to ourselves in our little camping spot. Nice weekend getaway!
Awesome spot on the river. lots of ants... otherwise great. the canyon in is really pretty. road was totally fine in a 4x4, doable in 2wd or awd, just be careful in the soft sand
Report Check-Insuch a great spot. kindve soft sand that could be a problem on some days for 2wd but overall an easy trip. river was amazing. great for a day trip as well
Report Check-InDEEP sand on the upper part of the road, almost didn't make it back uphill in my 2wd truck. Had to lower PSI and floor it
Otherwise very nice, pick up your tash or I will haunt your campsite 💋
