I wouldn't recommend parking in the park overnight. Go north and park on Upas street on the northern edge of Balboa park. Plenty of parking there.
Report Check-InExactly as described but just adding that I also got honked at by a random around 10:30pm and woke up to the gate being locked on Sunday morning, no events going on. Cop also drove past on an atv and didn’t bother me
Report Check-InStayed overnight on Easter Sunday. Big flat gravel lot. Four bars of 5G+ for ATT. The gravel lot is next to a large fenced in equipment area for San Diego park operations. Lots of traffic started between 530 and 7 AM as employees came and exited with pick ups/trailers with various equipment. Didn’t bother me, as I was up doing work. But if you were trying to sleep in, it definitely would’ve woke you up. One weird thing that happened was an RV drove in around 10:30 PM and deliberately honked the horn by my van and one other vehicle that was parked here. They left right away and that was the only incident during the night.
Report Check-InStayed here for a night in our car, even if it said that this place has been closed. No one approached us, no other car parked here. In the morning from 6 am worker vehicles pulled out from the parking lot next to us.
Report Check-InStayed here one night, Saturday to Sunday. Sign at entrance gate says „Authorized vehicles only“, but we were not disturbed (now on the weekend), except for a big group av ravens that decided to take a break (and some fighting around) on the top of our RV early in the morning.
A bit unlucky for us, the only access road was unexpectedly closed on Sunday morning due to a Marathon, so we had to wait until the marathon was over to exit the parking field.

Report Check-InThis is a SportCenter parking lot, nice view of the city and very close to balboa park. Parking lot is used for trail parking but was able to get some sleep here with no issues and wake up to take the dogs on a walk, stayed one night with no issues! Planes taking off and landing during the night but wasn’t an issue, more so fun to watch! BIG RIGS MOVING IN AND OUT 6am-10am
