Update May 2022: camping 120kwacha pppn.
Gorgeous little hideaway Lodge. You can camp straight at the lake shore. Facilities are simple but clean and neat. Clean water for swimming.
It is a bit difficult to find, even if you use tracks4africa. When you think you are lost or completely wrong , then you are nearly there. Ask locals, they know the place.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Great place, everything is neat, well kept and perfect clean. Celestine is a very friendly and welcoming host and a great cook. Don’t miss her grilled fish fresh from the lake.
We planned to stay one night, but stayed four.
The road to the camp can be a little bit overgrown, but if you follow Tracks4Africa down to the lake you can’t miss it.
wow wow a childwood dream made true more than i expected. Little germ on the shore, basic but all you need, do not expect any luxury except a flush toilet and warm shower
Report Check-InSecluded small campsite right on Lake Tanganyika. Hot shower water by donkey boiler and flushing toilet. Great place to spend a few days after being on the road. Interesting fishing village and harbour in Mpulungu town.
Report Check-InLovely camping spot right on the lake. Little bit rocky, but flat. Place looks a bit deserted, and in desperate need of attention but perfect for a stop over if you are self sufficient. Shower and flush toilet available. K130 per adult and our kids stayed free.
Report Check-InBeautiful location! We spent a couple of nights here but could have spent much longer. Road was quite rocky once off main road, but as long as you have decent clearance and take it slow it is very doable. Hot shower, clean toilet and we could buy wood to have a fire. We camped right on the shore under the big figtree. Celestine is very welcoming and will help you out with any questions.
Report Check-InWe had a fantastic night here. Location couldn’t be better, especially if you have late dealings in the day at the border which is only 20 mins away.
Report Check-InBasic, clean ablutions, very warm welcome. Price was K130, no negotiation necessary. Researchers still stay here from august so you might wanna check that before you come. Had 4G internet reception with Airtel.
Report Check-InGreat spot right at the lake as previously mentioned. It just has a wonderful calm feel. We could understand how folk have spent a month here.
Clarification on prices: It's K150 pppn but if you ask for discount Celestine will happily offer K130. Enjoy!
If you give the lady fish, potatoes, garlic and eggs she will prepare a meal for you - per plate 25 KW!
Report Check-InNice rocky and shady place next to the lake.
no electricity, everything very run down and very, very simple. 130 KW p.P. still overpriced!
great location, we stayed 2 nights and really enjoyed it. Close to the location, the path turnes right and turns back left Close to the water.
4 bars Airtel connection with a bandwidth of 0,1-6 mb/sec.
Staying there for 2 months we had our most enjoyable time in Zambia on the entire trip. Blessing is a very helpful lad.
Report Check-InAll as previous comment mentioned. Nice peaceful place with a kind manager. It's quite rustic and the 1km access dirt road is not the best. MTN internet works a bit but very unstable. Paid 120 kwacha ppn which is the cheapest campsite we've had in Zambia in 20 days.
Report Check-InVery nice place directly at the lake. Although the water level has risen I could camp directly at the shore (drove through the lake to get there). Warm shower, toilet, campfire is possible they supply you with wood and light the fire. Very friendly people, no noise at all. Celestine prepared fresh fish for us to braai. Paid 125 Kwatcha pppn.
Report Check-InWe wanted to stay at Tanganyika Sience Lodge today. The access from the tar road is very bad, but feasible for BigRig. The lodge seemed closed. Because the water level has risen about 4m higher, camping on the beach is not possible at the moment. We could have stood on a sloping driveway in the bush, which we didn't want. Apparently several families live on the premises. So it is not so calm as thought.
Report Check-InWe want to add that the price is 150 KW per person. And we add a view nice pictures ;).
Report Check-InWe really like this place! It is basic but you have a good shower and western toilets.
You can swim in the lake and enjoying the wonderful view!
Celestine is a very friendly and welcoming person. You can contact Celestine via what’s app +260 96 8703668
Very nice place!
Beautiful view on the lake, ablutions are clean and Celestine is very helpful and friendly.
You can ask fishermen to buy some yellow-belly (endemic fish of the lake) and Celestine help us to take filets.
We paid 80 kw/pers (kids are free) and spent 3 nights.
No sign at the road really so just follow the track, its a bumpy road down to the lake and a group of 25 or so navy soldiers are here for 3 months for training but they keep to themselves. Some shade and with some rocks you can level your car, little bit of sand for a tent and a family living right next to you so you have their chatting and children playing around you but everyone is friendly and you are right at the water! Very peaceful so hammock out and chill mode on... kw80 still.
Report Check-InGreat place all info as stated before. Very clean. Celestine does a great job. Cost 80 ZK pppn
Report Check-InReally nice Location just by the lake. Water from the lake. 80kwacha ppn. Parking on stones no schade for the Car. Researchers were here.
Report Check-Inlovely place but very little shade at the narrow campsite. 80 zkw pp. trust in osm place is not already in but the road is. Turn left at the engen station and follow the tar road. At a big tree you find an old sign turn right here.
when research is done refill of scuba cylinders is noisy in the afternoon it spoils you the evening.
we cant recommed this place as long the researchers are here. the refilling of the bottles is so incredibly loud since hours now and it goes on. Terrible! you can't talk to each other. researchers are there the whole year.
Wonderfull place to relax! Simple but all facilities are working. Very friendly people. Camping directly at the lakeshore. Clean water for swimming.
Report Check-InGorgeous.
No problems with kids, there are a few around but are extremely well behaved. Celestine the manager is very welcoming.
The location is just stunning at the very southern end of the lake. Camp on the shoreline and watch the lightening in the clouds miles away all night. Wake to the crystal clear waters with hundreds of fish coming to the surface to feed.
We were the only guests, it looks like it would almost be guaranteed except in August to November when researchers come to study fish.
The track from the tar road is about 1km long, is a narrow 2 spoor and is generally ok. 4wd would be advisable for the last section. Big Rig friendly, the track is overgrown but we got through at 3.4m high and 2.3m wide.
It's almost worth the visit just to use the hot shower - it has been built out of local stone inside a hut and is possibly unique.
We'll done Claus!
We paid 75kw pppn.
Incredible Location, camping right at the lakeshore all by yourself, working abolutions, price negotiable and soo worth it. Spent 2 nights and would return anytime.
Report Check-InCamping is now 80 ZMK pppn and the rooms are 100 pppn.
Quite rundown by now and lot's of kids around. The manager said they keep stealing the signs directing you to the site so he's not replacing them.
Gorgeous little hideaway Lodge. You can camp straight at the lake shore for 40ZMW pp/night. Facilities are simple but clean and neat.
It is a bit difficult to find, even if you use tracks4africa. When you think you are lost or completely wrong , then you are nearly there. Ask locals, they know know the place.
