Description

Tour started one hour later than expected, because we waited for the clouds to move, but they kept us well informed at all time. We felt very welcome since we arrived. They had a big range of drinks (natural fruit juices, pisco sour, wine) and fresh fruits prepared. It's a family run observatory in their garden with pool. They got three telescopes with different filters to watch for the sun. We were here for the transit of mercury. But you can also see sun spots and explosions on the surface every day and it's fantastic to see the sun for the first time so close. They explained a lot in English and Spanish. At the end we watched a 3D-Sun video in a small cinema which was really impressive too. Hole tour last for more than two hours and was worth every peso (10.000). Phone them or write an email to make a reservation ahead. You can also sleep there as it's a hostel or visit for night sky observation. [email protected] +56 51 2412441 alfaaldea.cl

star gazing near so much light pollution seemed strange to us.
26 persons in the tour. 90% Spanish so only the true basics were translated in English.
because of transportation issues tour started at midnight instead of 11.30

We did the tour at Alfa Aldea and it was very much worth it! Very personal and they even give you a glass of wine during the 3D movie (which is part of the tour). While stargazing they served a very welcome and warm soup with bread. We got the spent the night for free on their parking lot (we sleep in our car). Definitely recommend the tour to everyone!
