Description

FREE beautiful spot for staying overnight, having a swim in the lake or having a fire (be careful during dry season). No one bothered us during our two nights we stayed here while visiting Tikal. Place is right next to a established campground (35qts per person) where the owner told us it would be safe to park here overnight, "but you never know". For us it was safe, quiet (besides the howler monkeys) and best spot to stay for free. Another group of overlanders joined us and also pitched a tent, no problems.

Nice place to swim and rest in the shadow. But to sleep it is not level and very close to the road. We prefered to go to the public picnic place in El Remate to sleep.

We spent two nights here. This small vans can fit here. A lot of shade. Good for swimming.

Its directly next to the street, but quiet in the night .. Not even, but with a small Van or Car you can fit between the trees!

There is a lot of very loud trucks from 7 in the morning..

Superb quiet place by the lake. Good access to water for swimming. Not level, bring leveling blocks. We felt very safe. Amazing sunset over the lake. We picked up a lot of trash, it's our way of saying thank you for this beautiful place. Help us keep the place clean!

Good place to park for the night with great access to swimming in a clear Lake. I would stay here again. Traffic stops around 11 pm then quiet. My rig a 25' Class C is the maximum size to fit and I parked the car across the street. Lots of height clearance. As my rig is only 25' long I didn't mind bieng unlevel. This left 2 spots available for the locals to come everyday and swim. There is a spot across the street just wide enough and long enough to fit a max 32' rig. But you would have road noise and dust. Beautiful place with a crystal clear Lake to swim.

Not a great spot in our opinion!

Lots of trash, used condoms and locals partying on the beach. All the parking spots away from the road are too sloped to level even with leveling blocks. There is one spot right on the busy road that can be somewhat leveled if you try, but you’ll have constant road noise. The lower area has been blocked off for vehicle access at this point in time. There is no wood for fires unless you cut down some trees or just burn the large downed trees as the locals do. The lake access has a bit of trash along the shoreline.

The spot down the road has even more trash. It’s more secluded and more level than this one. We didn’t try to drive down the road, but did a walk through.

lovely little wooded park on the waters edge. Throughout the several days we stayed here families from town came by to swim and picnic, young men came by to smoke doobs by the lake. We stayed three nights and our last night police came by to check on us. They were very friendly and said it was safe and we were fine to stay. Many trees around for shade and hammocks. The lake is awesome!

Spent the afternoon swimming here talking with the locals. All of which said it wasn’t a good idea to spend the night here like we were planning. Has been lots of robberies and assaults in the past. Use your judgment, we felt safe, guys that watches property next to it said we’d “probably” be ok. Everyone in town has been super welcoming

Great place to camp as described. Good for swimming, the lake is really clear, shady trees for Hammocks, quiet at night except howler monkeys and I think we had some frogs as neighbors. We stayed three nights, one evening a local family came with loud music as usual. It’s almost impossible to find a even spot so bring something to level your vehicle.

Yes the spot is nice, right on the lake but if you want to be level is another story. The guardian of the house nearby came along we had a chat and give him 2 beers. He probably has already few... he told us safe here, better that near the town

Report Check-In

We couldn’t not park here because they are doing some road work and the workers and machinery are at the spot and no room to park.

Report Check-In

Everything is as described. It was great. Big rigs can fit. I just posted a picture of a 28 feet rig in that spot.

Beautiful pull out, we parked a couple feet away from the water. Semi rough dirt road getting in. Not a lot of bugs, friendly neighbor, and really quiet at night. Places for a campfire and the swimming here is perfect! Our favorite spot we’ve camped at so far.
