Description

We found this spot accidentally because Google Maps took us down the wrong road trying to get to a spot already spotted. Getting tired we pulled off on a flat, quiet spot. in the morning we saw the BLM signpost. This is a good place for a night or two. Quiet other than some occasional small plane noise. There are some dirt roads to walk and some small ponds and a canal. Some mosquitoes in April. Free. Room for dogs to run. One steady bar Verizon signal.

Good spot for the night before crossing the border early! Road has some washed out holes but was very manageable. Lots of pullout options from this point on.

BLM will ask you to move if you camp here, which is what they did to me this morning. This spot is in their new (?) 1-mile long buffer zone between long term paid permit camping and free dispersed camping. For free camping you need to travel almost 1 mile further down Holdridge Rd (away from the freeway).

Area borders the BLM long term sites. West of this road is permit only 9/15 to 4/15. East is 14 day limit and free. it was about 12 square miles of open camping here. Easy walk to Holtville Hot Springs. Basic supplies 7 miles away in Holtville.
Been using the Springs as a water source, no worries.
Lots of coyotes!
