Description

This location was suggested to me by the campground host in the bodega dunes campground, which was full. He said that camping along this road overnight is not illegal. The spot I am in is a wide turn out along the bay with my rig about 6 feet from the edge of the road. (My rig is a pickup truck with slide in camper.) There is some fast moving traffic but that pretty much goes away in the middle of the night. No one bothered me. The only sound I heard was an insistent fog horn in the distance and the occasional bark of what I can only assume is a sea lion. There is one other rig parked here; it’s a very large motorhome pulling a car trailer with a BMW convertible. If the space is full, I was also told that the equestrian parking area which is a bit further down the road is also available for overnight parking. It’s a very large space and has plenty of room for multiple rigs. If the proximity to the road is an issue, I recommend that. I almost moved, but really did want to see that stunning view of the bay from where I parked.

Like all free places to park overnight, I beg readers to camp responsibly and not abuse it. Places are closing down because users are either overstaying their visits, leaving trash, or becoming a nuisance. This spot was only a few hundred feet from a campground that gets $130/night for a full hookup site. If this option goes away, options like that may be all that’s available to us. PLEASE do not abuse places like this.

quiet pull out with another van and a couple of pickups. Feels safe, there's traffic but not a lot. the equestrian lot had several pickups and horse trailers but there was still room. I opted for the roadside pull out and was gifted a beautiful super moon rising.

Report Check-In

As described, it was pretty quiet at night. If you're renting kayaks from Bodega Bay Kayaks, the meeting point is here too. Super convenient. Pretty view of the bay after the fog burns off

Report Check-In

it was the perfect place to stop for the night. I stayed in the equestrian parking across the street. there was an RV and three other vehicles. very quiet with a view of the harbor

Report Check-In

Stayed here twice. Once on the road by the water and once in the equestrian lot. Either will work, the road tends to be sketchier because it’s very close to the road and we experienced the honking cars, however you wake up right on the water. The equestrian lot was great because of the room. We pulled in late and left early both times.

Report Check-In

Felt safe staying here, there was a campground on both sides. Its next to the road but no heavy traffic. I never heard any horns blow as described. I got here around 8pm and leaving now at 8am. Will definitely be back. Two others camped here as well right behind me.

Report Check-In

The “insistent” fog horn noted by the OP goes off every 8 seconds or so and would make sleeping impossible for me so I’m not staying. Something to be aware of if you’re sensitive to sounds like that. Otherwise seems like a nice area.

Report Check-In

We stayed at the equestrian lot as we weren't comfortable with the proximity to the road. The lot was empty when we got in at night and empty in the morning save for some bikers...watch out for horse poop, theres alot of it.

Report Check-In

As described, I stayed roadside across the street from parking lot. Nice n quiet except a few cars. Definitely stay again when up this way.

Nothing I can say that won't be repeated from the previous reviews. Gorgeous spot, very close to the road!

Report Check-In

the pull off is pretty small. didnt feel comfortable parking our 21ft rv for the night so close to the road so we just pulled up to the horse trailer lot and alept for the night. It was empty noone bothered us. Horse trailers showed up in the morning and we headed out to give them plenty of space.

Report Check-In

Spacious little pull out at a trailhead right on the highway. Pretty foggy but I imagine there's a nice view in the sun.

Report Check-In

reviews of this spot are true. good sized pull out which accommodated a class c motorhome pulling a Jeep and two Econoline vans. there's a small walkway down to The Waters edge which I assume is okay to traverse since there's no signage to stay off of the beach.

evening was reasonably quiet with traffic dying down considerably by 10:00 p.m. only one car passed with their horn blaring but the jury is out whether that was for us or the campsite across the street. otherwise, the night was quiet with no other interactions.

Report Check-In

As described. Equestrian TH is “better” spot as off the road and a few hundred yards up the road. Used RV park bathroom in the am.

Report Check-In

As previously described. Equestrian TH is just down the road and “better” to be off the road. Same views & beach. 5 vans here overnight - quiet until 6:00 am (light traffic).

Lovely spot. Don’t let being near the road put you off. It’s a very quiet minor road and the views are wonderful. Quiet overnight. If not, go one minute to the lay-by for horse trailers. Several RV’s there too.

Report Check-In

We spent the night in the horse trailer parking lot because it was foggy and I didn't feel safe along the side of the road. We found crabs on along the water across the road.

Report Check-In

Literally a roadside pulloff, just a yard or two from the road. It’s closer to moving traffic than I prefer to park overnight, but the road is not HWY1, it’s a residential and bay access road so after dark it isn’t particularly busy. Having said all that, it was late and I was tired and I parked my Sprinter and had a great night’s sleep. Despite lovely views overlooking the bay I wasn’t comfortable staying too long in the morning so I continued on shortly after getting up.

Report Check-In

the road side for parking is to small for big rigs, but the parking lot for horse trailers was empty so we choose this one, very quite
