Description

This is the starting point for a fun hike 3km into the canyon, much of which is at least up to the ankles in the river, and sometimes up to the waist. The water gets cold when you get past the spring! Obligatory to take a guide, which costs $125pp, or $75pp if you have 4 people or more. The canyon is 75m tall in places and just a few metres wide, and you go as far as a snail-shaped area, hence the name!

Take clothes you don't mind getting wet and decent shoes, there are slippery areas. A dry bag would be helpful but not necessary, at least at this time of year. Access is close if rains get heavy, usually around August/September. Fun 3-hour or so excursion!
