Something not right?

Description

I detoured to the marked point on the other side of the lake when it got late en route to Salto de Zaragoza, and found the access road blocked off. Almost didn't bother marking this spot as it's very exposed, but had a lovely peaceful night, and just water birds and butterflies for company in the morning. Flattish area of the land between the road and the pretty lake. Visible from everywhere, no shade. Just a minute or two to a small parade of lakefront businesses where you're could probably grab meal and a toilet; I didn't try. There are palapas and seating there too.

Latest Check-Ins

Spent two nights here. Didn't see any police and no one bothered us. The lake is beautiful and full of water fowl. There are covered picnic tables. We parked between two. It took a bit to get level but when we finally did, it was good. There was a little noise from the business across the lake the first night but quiet the next.

Report Check-In

Recommend avoiding this location due to harassment by local police.

Arrived after sunset and spoke with two police patrolling on ATV who told us we were safe to camp anywhere around the lake, whether the concrete boat launch in town or the other areas around the perimeter. Parked on the grass just to the north of town where several photos here on iOverlander were taken. We woke to different police knocking and yelling at 2am asking if we were high and wanting to inspect the vehicle. After talking them down and explaining we had spoken to local police on ATVs earlier they calmed and asked us to move to the well-lit area of town. We then woke to music blasting at 6am and locals yelling in our windows as if to jump-scare us. Worst experience in Mexico so far. Lake is beautiful notwithstanding!
