A really nice small valley with green and red rocks. Plenty of space for a rig or a tent, and sheltered from the wind. If you climb one of the hills nearby you have a beautiful view of the surroundings. Invisible from the road. Definetely worth the detour. No amenoties.
To get there, take the road to the lagunas Baltinache. Then, at -22.949726, -68.401711, take the turnoff. It’s not on maps.me, hence the coordinates. Follow for just under 10 km until you reach the valley on your right hand side. Don’t miss the petroglyphs on the way. If you don’t want to drive the full 10k, there are some other spots next to the road earlier on. Not invisible from the road, but we didn’t see any traffic for the 20 hours we spent here.
4WD is not necessary; high clearance is.
Bonus tip: if you follow the road even further, you will reach a plateau after about 6 km more. From here you have a spectacular view of the mountains and desert. The plateau is huge and empty and offers plenty of opportunities to spend the night.

Green Rock Boogie (from the road 23 towards San Pedro, take turn off to the right towards the laguna Baltinache, and after 13km it is a small road on the right).
Very nice spot, we missed the turn off from the road to Baltinache but we didnt use the gps coordinates. It seams like it is more 13km than 16 from the main road.
Windy but very beautiful view and starsky
Report Check-InIndeed, a beautiful valley. For us, it was worth it to go further till the plateau and drive a bit there. The view is amazing.
If you have time and want to escape from the busy places, we recommend those extra kilometres.
We confirm: no 4x4 needed, but high clearance necessary.
