Avalon Lake dispersed camping, further down than the big open area up above. Spot right next to the lake pretty secluded, high clearance recommended. LTE & a couple bars service Straight Talk!

great spot but NAILS! somebody through a ton of nails around the lower area. i am going through and picking up what i can. otherwise this place is close to town and beautiful. i plan on staying the full 14 days. 5g 2-3 bars google fi
Report Check-InA great spot by Lake Avalon. Peaceful. Plenty of space for dispersed camping. Human trash present. Watch for nails and broken glass.
Report Check-InGreat spot really close to town. There are lots of birds right now, awesome sunset. No services, good cell reception. You can go further east along the shore for more privacy, but then you come closer to the train tracks, too...
Report Check-InGreat quiet spot! I spent 2 nights here right by the water. So peaceful! Plenty of signal as well & quite close to town.
Report Check-Inwhat a great spot!! been here about a week and plan to stay one more. the lake is full now. and full of birds! had some deer in camp this morning. great blue herons perched nearby every other morning.
this specific spot has a lovely grove & fire pit. unfortunately, there is ample opportunity to clean up someone else's garbage.
to get here from the west parking area up top, you do have to cross some curb-sized rock ledges. I don't believe high clearance is necessary if you take one of the east side roads tho. the smoothest road, in my opinion, is around 32.4925362, -104.2478349. you can def get a class a down to the beach area on that road (at least at the time of this writing).
10-15 minutes to the grocery store! there's a Walmart & Lowe's & plenty of good food in Carlsbad.
Report Check-InSeems ok to me and easy access but it probably depends on where you drive. I came in on hard packed gravel. Plenty of areas to park but as others mentioned, a few seem to use this as the place to dump your trash bags and unwanted household items but overall it's not bad. I'm parked right next to the water by a rock fire ring. A few people drive out late at night but no problems. Full bars Verizon and 4G
Report Check-InYou can camp lakeside here. about 30-40 mins from Carlsbad Caverns NP, and just a few miles from Carlsbad, NM. No amenities, but decent cell coverage with Verizon. Some spots are large enough for big rigs to turn around but the dirt roads are rough and can get a little more rough near the shoreline. I made it no problem with an Astro van.
lots of trash strewn about, but today a large dumpster was place on the way in/out. Feel free to help fill it up during your stay here.
The road gets Rocky once you leave the pavement. Seems to be a local party spot. Lots of trash and broken glass. Beware there are rusty nails everywhere from people burning pallets. We picked up a nail and has to get a tire repaired. I would not recommend this as a place to stay.
Report Check-InGreat spot! Very quiet but easy to get to from Carlsbad. Also good cell service!
