Latest Check-Ins

worst place in Argentina, in January at least. at the end of the afternoon wind picks up and doesn't lay down till midnight. forget about shelter in the buildings, the wind reaches every corner behind every wall. look at the sand piled up behind walls. forget about cooking the wind brings the sand in every cooking pot. we had to stay because of or child needing to sleep but definitely would have left otherwise. after our night sand was everywhere in our tent, car, everywhere. maybe we where just unlucky but i am willing to bet the weather follows this pattern every day during summer. if the pros outweigh the fact that you spend the afternoon and evening inside, then stay: 2 pros beautiful star gazing as soon wind dies down and the place is just stunning. we enjoyed it much in the morning.

There are few abandoned old house out of ruta 40, between the road and the salinas. It wasn't windy when we stayed here but the ruins can give you some shelter. We got here fine with off-road bike and you'd probably be fine with a 4wd but bear in mind there are some deep sand patches. The place is really beautiful and no one bothered us

If you drive of the road into the ruins, you will ser a track that leads over the salar towards the mining area. Once on the track, never leave it and never try a U-turn. You will get bogged in knee deep sloshy mud. Winch will only work by digging you step tire in, or you'll have to wait for friendly indio Casimiro to come around and call help. He lives in house he shows you somewhere in the horizon, you will never see , and is used to help "boggers" out. Payed him ARS 200,00.
