This is an established campground at the southern end of the New River Gorge National Park. It is free and takes no reservations. There are bathrooms but no other amenities. It is flat and quiet except for the occasional train passing by.

6 vans, 4 tents & 3 small trailers here last evening; 2 trains went by; 1 out of 3 bathrooms open; clean & well-stocked. All sites perfectly level; each with large grill. Entire campground neat & well-maintained.
Report Check-InQuiet. Periodically a train goes by. No dogs or any other noise. Get bit cold in October.
Good cell signal.
Report Check-InGot here right before dark on a Saturday. Lucky to find a couple spots still open. Campground was very well kept. Quiet when we were there. Sits in a flat, wide open valley. Nice view. Lots of wildflowers. Leaves aren’t changing just yet.
Report Check-InArrived after dark and it was a bit hard to get the lay of the land, but we figured it out. Very dark so great star viewing. In our 22’ sprinter van and got in no problem. A bigger RV likely could not make the turns (two 90° turns over RR tracks at entrance). Two trains, one around 10pm and one 6am ish). Only 5 other campers there (a Wednesday night). Went for a swim in the river in the morning. Park ranger drive by and did not say anything about the van. Would definitely go back. Loved this site. One bar on consumer cellular (AT&T towers).
Report Check-InOpen meadow. River on one side, train tracks on other. Trains are loud but didn't hear any overnight. RVs only but I clarified at the visitor center, single vehicle size like pickup or van ok but I would get the ok beforehand. I heard others say Rangers asked some to leave. Decent Verizon
Report Check-InRanger warned us you will be ticketed if you go here in your RV, tent camping only as of recently and enforced.
Report Check-InExcellent spot. This is the least used free spot in the entire park. There is a River access point and you can stay up to 14 days. Good Verizon service.
Report Check-InGreat free campsite with fire pit and grill. A lot of space and very green. Gets buggy at night. Not much for shade. Does have toilets. They’re clean. It’s peaceful and neighbors are cool. Where are here on a Saturday night on our 3rd day and a family is lighting fireworks at 9pm. T mobile and Verizon have good cell service to the far right of the campground. Garbage dumpster on site for taking trash out. Enjoy your stay.
Report Check-InSupposed to be tent camping only, but nearly every site will fit a rig up to 25’. Beautiful site and peaceful until it isn’t, freight trains about every two hours and long ones lasting upwards of twenty minutes. BTW no potable water and no toilets other than two portable outhouses. This site is close to being the WORST night ever. Also, NPS will start taking reservations only and charging the premium rate starting in 2023.
Report Check-InThis was a really great spot! Toward the bottom of New River Gorge and near the Sandstone Welcome Center. I stayed here for about 2 days and would absolutely go back.
I didn’t get very good service, about 1 bar and enough for a short phone call and to get some texts out.
15 camp sites with a bonfire, grill and picnic table
Pit toilets
Water access
Wide open and good sun for solar
There were about 2-3 trains that went through each night I was there, you are close to the tracks so you can see the train go by!
-Good AT&T (spotty in various sites- find one that works for you) and decent Verizon as well
-pit toilets (still open as of nov 9)
-on the river (saw otters and deer)
-great for solar since it’s open
-established sites with fire rings and picnic tables
-easy to get to and will fit any sized rig
-near new river gorge np (park is very spread out so map it all beforehand) as the roads don’t all go through. Check out nps app
-visited early nov and was very open (only about 3/15ish sites taken
-on campendium (called meadow creek there) others mentioned trains being loud and consistent, I only had one go by and it wasn’t too terrible.
A large open meadow with a few designated sites. Between the river and railroad tracks. There were a couple of trains that went by at night. It's free and within the National park so it's ok I guess.
