Excellent border crossing - one of the best in 7 months in Africa. UG - TZ.

Everything moved fast (for Africa) and relatively efficiently. Were easily able to get transit visas (7 days - $30) and a transit TIP (7 days - $5). There's a bank on site to pay for each (separately). Vehicle wasn't inspected or scanned.

All up, in and out in 1.5 hours.

We have unfortunately had a very poor experience at the border today crossing from TZ - Uganda. On arrival the road was blocked by trucks, there is no road for cars only so you just have to wait for the trucks to go through (the delay is caused by everyone waiting to go through the scanner). I can't even recall to you the correct process for this border because we were sent backwards and forwards numerous times with different information given by each official. The just of the process seems like TIP stamped out of TZ then new TIP for Uganda. This is done at the small building on the TZ side just before you enter the gates. The TIP here costs $60 US for 90 days - this is the only option for a TIP. Even though we are entering for less than two weeks they don't offer shorter options like 30 day TIPs like most countries do. We tried but this was non-negotiable. At the agents for the bank (located directly behind TIP building) to pay the TIP they argued that the exchange rate for a $10 USD note was different to that of a $20 USD note ?!? The TIP guys said that completing Interpol was mandatory for them to issue the TIP however there were no officials for Interpol on site - we had to send photos of our documents via phone to the Interpol and leave copies of our documents with the guard at the exit gate. Then the usual immigration for TZ then immigration for Uganda was straight forward. We did the visa prior to our arrival and printed it for 400TSH. the officials at this stage were prompt and helpful. After all of this we had to wait our turn to pass through the scanner. In addition, the TIP guys kept saying it would be better if we got an agent, we refused as is our right. The took lunch at 1-2pm as they should but just meant we were waiting again. It was our 6th border crossing since SA and our worst and longest so far. maybe we were just unlucky! It took us 4 hours. Good luck and may the border gods bless and guide your passage!

TZ to UG :
Many trucks but easy for cars.
They have a scanner so we passed the car through it. They are looking for weapons (including pepper spray), because they didn’t care about our dog (not even checked his paper) just asked to take him out for the scan. We even had a drone in the car nothing in the scan…

Friendly police, we had e-visa printed out in the previous town (I pin it), so fast and easy.

If you have a CPD, no need to pay anything for the car
