Something not right?

Description

Dirt lot at a water tower on BLM land between Baker, NV and Great Basin National Park. Spent some time exploring the dirt roads in the area for something less developed but couldn't find any pullouts from the roads. No problems navigating my 21' 2WD campervan. I wouldn't bring a trailer or anything longer as there is nowhere to turn around a larger vehicle. Beautiful views of the mountains, the valley, the park and Baker. Lots of bugs; plan accordingly. 3-4 cars passed from probably 5pm on on a Saturday night during busy season. No facilities! Leave No Trace.

Nice little spot right off the highway. Gravel road is great. Suitable for any type of vehicle. There appear to be more sites further up the road as well. I stayed here 2 nights.

Report Check-In

Water Tower lot CONFIRMED BLM CAMPSITE. As described and pretty flat. No problems for our 26.5ft Class C.

There are two signs on the water tower fence that say no parking and violators will be towed, but we called the local BLM office and they said that locals have been putting signs up bcs they don’t like ppl camping up here. We talked to Scott (the one to talk to apparently) and he said that legally no one can tow bcs it is in fact a BLM campsite. And that there isn’t even a tow company in the area so it’s purely some grumpy local trying to deter campers.

There aren’t any gravel pull offs to park until much much further up the road (see map another user uploaded) and those would be hard to get to in any large vehicle. Stayed here two nights and left our RV during the day to do some hikes in the park.

Took 25 foot RV, easy to get to, quiet and flat. One other camper in car shared space. Worked out great.

possible to get a 30 ft TT into here, but it does take some maneuvering and multiple point turns. pretty quiet, and a beautiful view of the mountains

one of the closer confirmed BLM sites near Great Basin NP— we were the only ones camped there. saw an amazing double rainbow from this spot. despite the water tower being a sore eye, the rest of the scenery is lovely.

Great spot to watch the sunset and easy to get to with my rented minivan. Also recommend the Sugar, Salt and Malt restaurant in town. Great owners.

As described. Dirt road to get here, about 1 mile from the main road. Good reception (got 3 bars; I use AT&T). Beautiful view of the stars.

Report Check-In

Got here late and left early. Quiet spot near a water tower.

adding a link to that map since the photo is bad. https://www.blm.gov/sites/blm.gov/files/docs/2022-03/DispersedCampingOnBLMNearGreatBasinNationalPark.pdf

Still a good place to camp. I got kicked out of this spot by the town water manager, but then I called the blm field office and was told that this is a perfectly acceptable place to camp. I have attached a blm map of other good spots in the area if someone is already here. Enjoy! and don't worry about that water manager, the blm will be giving him a call to straighten things out hopfully.
