(Black bears present as of 11/2021) Camped in a large gravel parking area at the trailhead for the Round Mountain trail system. in Jefferson National Forest land. Not a designated campsite but not posted as closed to camping. Regulations state dispersed camping allowed if no signs forbidding it. No amenities. Steep gravel road, about 1.75 miles off of the paved road 52 out if Bastian. Convenient stop on our way to New River Gorge NP. Light coverage on Verizon.

the lower lot under the power lines was occupied by several other RVs and the gate was open so we continued on up the hill to the trailhead landing period medium gravel lot well-maintained road no fire rings. four-wheel drive if available (not necessary) helps reduce the building of washboard climbs on steep hills like this.
Report Check-InBlack bear sighted about 100 yards away on our ride in, so we kept the dog inside and the firearms loaded. Definitely a steep climb up the mountain, but we did play in two-wheel drive during dry weather. Two bars Verizon, no traffic.
