Description

Early on at the road to the park entrance, guys in luminous vests try to make you park your car and sell guided tours (group 40'000C/p, private 45'000C/p, incl parking/5000C and entrance fee/13'000C/p). Instead,
drive on to the car park 100m from the entrance, at the right. We took a guide (2 hours) and we could see more animals then without one. The beach at the end of the tour is nice. But in the end, for us, the experience was not worth the money.

I agree mostly on the comment from poudredescampette below. come early at 7am and you have the park for yourself. However, unfortunately they took all my food (also in tupperware) and I had to buy the completely overpriced food inside the park☹️. But on the other hand I'm happy that they protected a bit of this beautiful landscape and somehow you have to manage the 1000 tourists that come every day. So I think the concept is fair except as seen in other countries when foreigners have to pay 5 times more...
no need for a guide. I saw all the animals by myself.

We reserved our place online 2 days before coming. At 7 am there was no one there. The park is pretty and we were able to walk about 10km despite there being several closed paths. The fauna is abundant (white faced monkeys, howlers monkeys, titi monkeys, agoutis, coatis, sloths, crabs, deer, possums, iguanas). However, all the business around the park leaves you wondering... I think this park is overquoted, there are much prettier parks in Costa Rica, for example the Parque Nacional Cahuita (free). Please note that it is forbidden to bring single-use plastic bags and bottles. Likewise, food is limited and must be put in small capacity Tupperware (<800ml).

Awesome NP! We saw sloths, and 2 types of monkeys (white faced and tití) without a guide, just look where the guides and crowds are looking at and you'll see a lot of animals. If you want to go with a guide ask one INSIDE the park (one offered a tour for 40 dollars for both of us), the outside ones are very expensive.
We parked in a big parking lot in the right 100 m before the entrance, it was 4000 colones (there is a smaller one on the left 50 m from the entrance, 5000 colones).
You are not allowed to bring drones, food (fruits, sandwiches etc) and water in not reusable plastic bottles to the park and some other things I don't remember (it's all written in the terms & conditions when you buy the tickets online but nobody reads them).
I would recommend to have a good meal before entering into the park and bring a reusable bottle of water, on the main trails ( I believe sendero perezoso and playa Manuel Antonino) there are drinking water taps everywhere to refill your bottles.
The guides will only go to those main trails with you, if you want to hike a bit more you have to go on your own. Sendero Mirador Puerto Escondido and Punta Catedral were closed when we went.

In retro I'd recommend not to come to this NP: it's not worth it! Too many people, not really much to see - it's a tourist trap! But if you decide to come I can recommend Mauricio: he is a good guide and very reliable! Charged us 25 USD per person.

nice park, we really enjoyed it, parked beofr along the way for 3000 the whole day....
we have booked a tour through air BnB experience, 24 euros each instead of the 60 USD proposed by the park, wonderful experience highly suggested, on air BnB look for Jason tour

can highly recommend this Park. Really interesting Wildlife Tour. there is No official Ticket kiosk. you have to Buy the tickets online before (16 USD) or with a local helper. Visiting the Park makes only sense with a guide, because you are Not able to spot the wild animals on your own. Can highly recommend Maurizio, +506 8840 9973. very expirienced and Professional Guide, speaks clear english. He uses a binocular with tripod and helps you to make photos to this. His price ist negotiable, depends on time and season, about 20.000 - 25.000 colones.

Entrance to the National Park. On the way there tons of guides will tell you that you need to buy a guided tour because otherwise it's "hard" to get tickets. Ideally you make a reservation ahead of time on the Costa Rica national park website. We did not have one but were able to do it on a tablet that park rangers provided at the entrance. Fast and no issues. We saw tons of monkeys, birds, sloths and other animals even without a guide. I am sure a guide can spot more for you but since we are traveling with a toddler, we tend to not purchase guided tours...
