Great location right in front of the beach and Pato's Surf School. The owner Eduardo is very nice. Basic toilets and showers. Restaurants and shops within walking distance.
We spend 3 days relaxing and surfing- great spot for this.

Report Check-In

Small campsite directory at the beach. Owner Eduardo is super friendly and helpful, speaks only Spanish.

No wifi available. We paid 20USD for 2 persons and a Rooftop tent

Report Check-In

Very nice place to stay. With bathrooms and showers, and a fantastic view to the beach. Eduardo is super friendly and helps with anything.

Report Check-In

Very nice stay. Las Cocos is an amazing camping with an fantastic view. Eduardo, the owner, is adorable and makes sure you have everything you need. Thanks to him and his adorable dogs, the camping is secure. Sanitaries are very basic but clean.

Report Check-In

Loved this little campsite. Eduardo is really friendly and helpful. It’s right on the beach and there’s a great surf school in front if you want a lesson or board rental. Shower and toilets were simple but effective, there’s drinking water and each site had power. It is a small camping area so best suited for tent campers or campervans. If you’re tall like us (3 m) take it slow on the way in and ask for help if the power wires are too low.

Report Check-In

It is a real great place and situated at the beach - great for surfing- the installation toilets and showers are old but very clean - Eduardo with his 3 dogs is supervising the place 24 hours = very safe and takes care of everything - price 10.000 for 2 - but big Riggs could have a problem to enter

Report Check-In

Lugar lindo cerca de la playa! En frente hay una escuela de surf! Eduardo es pura vida! 5000 colones por noche por persona! #yupik

Report Check-In

We enjoyed this place so much! Perfect location, beautiful beach and short walk to the supermarkets. Toilets and showers are very basic but work fine and are clean. Wifi connection was strong. The owner and his three dogs are friendly. Felt very safe here.

Report Check-In

perfect spot to spend a few days at the beach. we stayed here for 3 nights. the owner is very nice and keeps the place clean. also guards the place all day with his dogs. surfschool right in front of you. lots of restaurants nearby. felt very safe here. 10/10 would recommend. 5000 p.p. per night.

Report Check-In

Beach, Eduardo, surf school and facilities all as described below which are basic and what you come to expect in Costa Rica. Eduardo is really helpful, lives onsite (with dogs) and you can barter the price with him if your staying for longer.
Wifi comes from a local restaurant nearby so not in your pitch and electricity is hanging from every tree (yes really, cables everywhere)

Report Check-In

We stayed 3 nights in roof top tents at this tiny but perfectly located camping. You can't get any closer to the water, at hight tide some waves come up to 10meters distance from the car. Driving in, there is a 90 degrees turn, so bigger rigs will have a problem there or between the coconut trees. Coming down the road you might miss the sign for Los Cocos, just look ou for Pato's Srfing School, which is right in front of the camping (no fixed installations).
Eduardo was very helpful and very attentive to needs/problems we might have. He checked carefully for the coconuts in the trees so we could safely park our car and set up tents.
The sea breeze during the day is really nice. Toilet/showers are basic but ok. Washing tables are good for washing anything.

Report Check-In

Super cool location! Directly at the beach and you have a surf school in front. Nice spot to go in the ocean. The facilities aren‘t so nice. You don‘t have any kitchen and the toiltes and showers are a bit dirty. But it‘s ok for one night. We payed COL 10.000 per night for 2 people in a rooftop tent.

Report Check-In

Camping extrêmement bien placé au bord de l eau toilette et douche très sommaire. L emplacement fait tout

Report Check-In

Very nice camping right on the beach. Toilets and showers are old but cleaned every day. Eduardo is nice and helpful.

Report Check-In

This was a great little overlander hub, with camping space for both tents and rooftop/rv type vehicles. Right by the beach, chill and quiet at night, great sunsets. There are a few bathrooms & showers available. The only downside for me was that at 5am there were howler monkeys directly above my tent, and while that’s pretty cool it also meant I didn’t get much sleep. Only stayed one night but could easily have stayed here longer

Report Check-In

very nice little place right on the beautiful beach. there is electricity, WiFi, showers, toilets and drinking water. as well as light, if you want. Highly Recommended. 5000pP, owner quirky but very nice and tries very hard

Report Check-In

great location and very friendly owner. we were right in front of the beach with the surf school in front of us. easy walking distance of bars, restaurants, grocery stores etc. the beach is very nice and the sea is safe to swim in, ie no rip currents during our stay. no WiFi during our visit. the owner is very friendly and is very alert patrolling with his dogs. there is a thoroughfare onto the beach so that may be why. well worth a stay.

Report Check-In

BEWARE: Make sure to communicate with the owner how long you’re staying and how much you’ve paid!

We stayed for two nights and paid 20000 colones for two persons upfront on arrival.
When we wanted to leave the owner insisted that we still had to pay. We told him it’s already done and then he still wanted 10000 colones.
We got one of the surf guys involved to translate but he still didn’t want to accept our point.
At the end he got quite rude and said karma will find a way to come back to us.
We left with a sad feeling as we otherwise had really enjoyed our time there.
The owner is really helpful and friendly but doesn’t speak any English. So communication is difficult.
Maybe he should hand out receipts or get organised as it was quite busy when we were there.

Overall it’s a nice place right on the beach. It’s a challenge to get a rig larger than 7 meters and higher than 3 meters Inside. We just made it around the tight entrance corner as well as the palm trees and low hanging power lines.
It was quite packed with about 6 other tents and cars staying there.
Toilets and showers are really basic and don’t get cleaned properly. Wifi wasn’t working while we were there. There are power points all over the place but no lights in the washrooms.
The water is potable and there are several spigots all over the place.
The owner keeps the ground clean all day and is always there and really helpful. His dogs are super cute too.
The beach is right in front with fun waves as well as a surf rental. A short walk will take you into town with lots of restaurants and shops.
We would definitely stay here again but make sure to communicate about the payment first.

Report Check-In

Good place in front of the nice beach. The waves are ideal for surf beginners. You can also take lessons or rent a board right in front of the camping. For rigs longer than about 8m or higher than around 3m it might be difficult to get in/out. Paid 5000 pppn. Eduardo is extremely nice and helpful.

Report Check-In

I stayed here 8 nights. Cold showers, flush toilets….both are cleaned daily. I had electricity and was able to back up to a covered area. There’s a good place to wash dishes and I drank the water. Right on the beach. Safe. Eduardo is the host. He speaks no English and is a really good guy. I could be friends with him. He has two small dogs that are very sweet. Good watch dogs too….they don’t bark unless there’s a reason.

The place isn’t real big but it never felt crowded. Enough travelers In and out to make it interesting. Close walk to get beer, groceries and whatever else.

I think I enjoyed this place better than anywhere in Central America.

I was with Dixie my lab and we paid $7 a night.

Report Check-In

There was just something about this place that I thought was magical. Howler monkey families passed through the trees multiple times. We stayed 4 nights and I could’ve stayed longer. 10,000/night. Right on the beach. We took surf lessons next door, which included the use of boards for 5 days. Simple bathroom and shower, plus outdoor shower for sand. Nice big sinks for dishes and laundry. Felt very safe, with friendly staff, neighbors, and random tourists interested in the Jeep and our journey. Easy walking access to restaurants, bars, groceries, and coffee shops. No ant issues and not too many mosquitos. The weather is drier in this part of Costa Rica than other parts of the country and seemingly the rest of Central America right now.

Report Check-In

Great little place right at the beach. Surf rental right in front sets up with the tide so some days sooner, some days later but didn't bother at all. Didn't hear any music at night during the 4 days we stayed. Decent wifi, basic bathrooms and showers. Probably tough to navigate if you are in a vehicle any longer than 6m but check it out yourself...

Report Check-In

Great location, right on the other side of a low wooden fence from the sand, site is pretty small with lots of coconut trees so a bit difficult to navigate a big car, we parked really close to others and seemed like a few lived there permanently. Bathrooms and showers are clean and water is potable. Only campsite we stayed at that had wifi. 5000 colones per person per night. Discoteka nearby played music until 12:30am on a Wednesday, and surf school directly in front started setting up at 7:00am, so didn't get the best night sleep. Pato's surf school gives lessons and rents boards for $4/hr.

Report Check-In

We had a great three night stay here, the owner speaks no English but was friendly and we felt safe. The toilets are not so great but the cold showers were clean.
A bit tricky finding a spot that wasn't under a coconut tree, but a lovely location and walkable to everything in the town.

Report Check-In

What an amazing spot. This is our 3rd camping site in CR and by far the best one! It's got everything. There are 4 toilets and showers available at the site and the showers have showerheads rather than just a pipe shooting water. Most importantly, while they look suspect by Canadian or American standards, they are actually quite clean and in great working order!

There are 3 sets of sinks. Two for dishes and one for personal usage, as well as an outdoor shower for a quick rinse after a swim in the ocean.

There's very fast WiFi (16 Mbps Down and 5 Mbps Up) for a campsite and it was fast enough to watch an NHL stream last night.

The location is fantastic as well. On the quieter North side of Samara Beach, the campsite is literally on the other side of the fenceline and the beach is wonderful. Very sandy and flat bottom with easy waves to learn to surf on or just to play in. There happens to be a surf school right in front of the site that charges $50 USD for lessons and you get to use the surfboard for 5 days after as well. The site is also about a 5 minute walk along the beach to the main town which has great food options.

6,000C per night per person. Well worth the expense. Highly, highly recommended!!

Report Check-In

Small space, fells cramped. I perfer the free spot on the beach at the south end.

Report Check-In

Stayed here for 2 nights. The best place in Sàmara if you have a tent or camper van. Good view to the beach during the morning and day. The owner is very nice and guard the place at night. Felt very safe during the night. The first night we were 4 camper vans (As the picture shows) and 3 cars with a tent on the ground, but still space for more.

Report Check-In

Place is ok. Small camping near the beach. Very very crowed and noisy at night. 6000 pp. There are cold showers and restrooms, which they rent as well for the surfers. Restrooms are not bad. Anyway didn’t seems for us as a very cozy place.

Report Check-In

This place is really nice! Right on the beach w/ a nice view. Got everything you need - sandy place between trees, bathrooms basic but clean, wifi: ok.

Report Check-In

Site backs onto the beach, beautiful view of ocean. Surfboards to rent on beach out front of site. Plenty of power plugs on trees on sites to charge electronics. Owner is very friendly, so are his dogs! Bathrooms and showers are basic (no hot water, byo toilet paper). Can drink water 👍🏼 highly recommend this spot!

Report Check-In

really easy going place, very nice owner and friends who stay up at night. friendly dogs, beautiful site next to the beach. good surf spot for beginners. rent a board next to the site for $4 an hour. would go here again! the owner makes a very nice coconut drink

Report Check-In

Loving this spot. Our rig is right next to the beach. There is lots of shade from the palm trees. Owner is super friendly. The surf school is just 3 feet away. The facilities are very basic but fine. Would recommend this place when visiting Samara

Report Check-In

Nice place for a few nights. The wifi is good, showers and bathrooms clean. You are right in to the beach. Very narrow, anything bigger than 18 feet might have some troubles getting in. Palm trees are in difficult position and electric cables are really low.

Report Check-In

In a small alley. We didn't even get around the corner, let alone between the palm trees. Owner was very uninterested and rude. Wanted 4000 per person. We then drove to the other side of the city with lots of place.

Report Check-In

Really loved it here. Arrived for only one night but stayed for three. The location is amazing and so tranquil. David and Edwardo running the space are so helpful and keep it very well. Defo recommend. We were charged 4,000 per person, per night.

Report Check-In

Great spot, just right at the beach- surf school , restaurants etc close by but still calm & easy.
Owner speaks not a single word English- 5000col/night/person- discount if u stay longer.
Showers / toilets quite disgusting.
Electricity, no WiFi

Report Check-In

Nice place with perfect view and access to Samara beach. We were the only ones at the campsite (it may be very crowded during the weekends) and enjoyed it very much. The palm trees spend enough shade, got electricity plugs and light. The owner is taking care that everything is illuminated at night. Showers and toilets were clean, but they don't provide toilet paper. Right in front of the campsite is Patos Surfschool, so you can easily take classes or rent surfboards (per hour). Grocery store, ATM , bakery in walking distance. They also sell ice for the fridge at the campsite. Paid 5.000ppn

Report Check-In

Currently day 8 of the corona virus quarantine and we have yet to find a reason to get out of here. Super chill campground, everything clean, the owners are very friendly, you are right in the beach beneath palm trees, there is a shop nearby that has all the food you need. Electricity works perfectly, wifi sometimes goes all the way to the campground but if not there is always reception at the entrance. Absolutely recommended, couldnt have picked a better place to be stuck in.

Report Check-In

We stayed here for 2 nights with a small RV. The site ist beautiful right at the beach. The people are super friendly. The toilets are clean. We had electricity and enough water to showeenough en

Report Check-In

nice place to stay with a beautifull view on the beach. you can negotiate the price.

Report Check-In

Beautyful place in front of the sea...nice beach and not bad with children compare to the other places on Pacific coast ...and you pay for this !!
The facilities are not clean and no TP...the electricity is a shame...awful showers...
For little rigs only ! The price seems variable... 3500 co/adult and 2500 co/child !

Report Check-In

The place was empty when we arrived, were able to negotiate the price at C 3000 pp pn without electricity. Still quite expensive for what you get... dirty toilets (flush, no TP) and basic showers and some sinks to wash dishes.
You really pay the beach front / Playa Samara location here. Still a nice place to stay with lots of shade from palm trees and good swimming in front of the door.

Report Check-In

Nice place in front of the samara’s beach and the peak of de wave for to surf.
Very simple with only showers and toilets.
8000 colones for 2 persons and a car and tent.

Report Check-In

Very nice place directly on the beach! A little run down, but the view is beautiful! We paid 4000 Colones pr. person per night. The locals are nice and it is quiet at night.

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot right at the beach. We were the only one camping here so lots of privacy but can imagine in high season it is pretty crowdy and less privacy but would still recommend it! We had to pay 4000 Coll pppn we did not negotiate as the owner doesn't speak English.

Report Check-In

Very nice campground right on the beach. Beautiful setting, Sandy, with plenty of coconut palm trees. Electricity available but the outlets are only covered by a plastic bag, cross your fingers if it rains, high probability of a shortcut, pet friendly, The owner was welcoming. No WiFi. Bathrooms and showers just ok. $7000 colones for 2 people.

Report Check-In

Nice camping by the beach.
Fairly clean according to local standard.
The owner cleaned the bathrooms as we arrived. And wiped the sand in the morning.
Right next to the camping is a nice surf / bodyboard / kayak rental place. Also ok.
We spent 2 nice nights there.
3500 Colon per person, including the kids.

Report Check-In

The plan was to stay a day, ended up staying 5. We felt too comfortable to leave. Right on the beach, no internet and rustic Shower/bathroom. We were alone for first 4 days.

Report Check-In

Amazing location but very run-down facilities and run by a very grumpy Argentinian lady. Also fight fit for larger rigs to squeeze in. But you're just a few steps from the sand.

Report Check-In

You are straight on the beach, that’s the good part. However it’s too tight for a rig, you feel you don’t have privacy from the nearby neighbour. The toilets are basic, no toilet paper, dark and tight showers. We had some local music from the neighbors that came tenting, not an inspiring place for us where we could relax. Internet is from the nearby restaurant, comes and goes. When it comes is weak. Pity, as the beach is nice if you want to start learning surfing.

Report Check-In

beautiful place front of the beach. I stayed with my hammock, it's perfect. I paid 4000 colones. No kitchen here and you can check the Wi-Fi from the next restaurant (Locanda2018)

Report Check-In

Established campground in front of Playa Sámara Beach.

Report Check-In

Nice, established camping. 8$ per person. Includes water, electricity, bathrooms. In front of Sámara Beach. I went on New Year's Eve, it was crowded yet pretty nice, so if you visit it on less popular dates you will be fine. The owners and workers are pretty cool and helpful.
The beach is beautiful and has a very familiar environment.
Pets are allowed.

Report Check-In

nice place directly on the beach but on hard sand between palms. toilets more or less clean. we didn't like the beach but the camping is nice

Report Check-In

They wanted 3.500 colones per person including our 2 kids and baby. We talked him down to 10.500 total. It is very run down with electric wires taped together and strung between trees. Does have toilets, showers and sinks all in poor repair but working. The owner did give us some coconuts he had knocked down and opened up. The beach is nice, close walk to store and restaurants.

Report Check-In

We thought this place was great. Right on the beach, 2 minutes to town. Jesus that maintains it was super friendly and attentive. Toilets are only real drawback but we've all seen much worse.

Report Check-In

The owner was nice to us when we were there and we talked a lot with him. He tries to keep clean all facilities. showers and restrooms are old but ok. The kitchen area is a mess. The whole surface of the spot is sand. Also if it is raining there is no water. We payed 3500 Colon per people per night. The place is near to some good restaurants and has its own beach.

Report Check-In

We stayed here for two nights, negotiated price of 3500c per person per night. If you stay multiple days he will negotiate down further. no Wi-Fi, showers and toilets were ok..nothing horrific but not exactly golden thrones. location is awesome, right on the beach and amongst coconut trees. owner has a bad reputation around town (and on here) for being crazy... We had no troubles and he was always fine. Electricity is included and plugs all over the place. there isn't loads of space for large vehicles because it's a little tight amongst the trees but if I can make the turn on the road in you should be ok.

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

Comfortable place to camp right in front of the beach. Dirty restrooms but we've seen way worse. Watch for falling coconuts. Negotiated to pay 2500 Colones per person, per day. Jesus, the person on charge, was friendly at first but turned out to be very disrespectful and dishonest. This is probably your best option to camp in Samara found in iOverlander but we wouldn't patronize businesses like this.

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

quick stay over- wanted 16k clones for 2 adults and 2 kids for one night.
talked him down to 10, nice location bathrooms weren't bad but minimal however you can't beat sleeping on the beach under howler monkeys.

Report Check-In

Possibly new owners/management. I would not go back. Although the setting is beautiful the bathrooms, showers and sink area was disgusting. And this is coming from a guy. Payment was also sketchy. When we paid the guy disappeared for an hour before giving us change without a word. Beware. Also the people camped next to us had items stolen in the night

Report Check-In

Good spot right facing the beach. 4000 pp without electricity. Our Rv is 19ft L, 13ftH, 7W we made it with some maneuvering. Anything bigger just have to try harder but there are spots at back that may work.

Report Check-In

Came for 1 day, stayed for two weeks. Other descriptions are correct. Great beginner surfing. Ask for Nicholas next door at Pato's surf school. 3 stars because bathrooms and showers are not that great.

Report Check-In

Great spot right on the beach. Surf & boogie board rentals next door with Nikki. $6 per person. Owner Don Jesus brought us mangos and coconuts. Electric no extra charge. Toilets and cold showers not great but tolerable. Great pizza next door and 2 for 1 sushi 2 doors down on Monday nights. Monkey lives in the coconut trees. We stayed three nights and were the only ones there.

Report Check-In

Awesome camp spot on the beach. Very nice. Highly recommend for a stop

Report Check-In

Yes location is great Samara is great. But the bathrooms are horrible here. Toilets are dirty and showers a bit better but keep the door open as there is no light. Come for the beach not for the facilities.

Report Check-In

Perfect for us. On the beach, shaded by coconut trees, surf rental next door, kid-friendly, short walk into town where there is a great health food store. 5000 colones/person if you pay upfront for at least 3 days. You will want to stay more!

Report Check-In

Awesome camp spot! $10,000C per night with electric. We're a tall rig and it took a bit of wire handling to get in but the owner was very helpful!

Report Check-In

Beautiful, by the beach, $6k a night. No deals for longer stay. Samara has everything you need. Surfing lessons right beside. Can be very loud on the week ends if camp ground gets over run by San Jose's residences.

Report Check-In

Camping right on the beach in Samara. Cold showers, toilets, dishwash area and electric included. Laundry available for extra. 6,000 CRC for two people per night

Report Check-In

A small camp ground with a fantastic location on the beach on the Nicoya Peninsula. Surface is firm sand. Several good beach restaurant nearby, and a short walk to a grocery store. An easy place to stay for a few days or weeks. Tight corner which will give bigger rigs a problem.

Price: 6000 colones

Report Check-In

Campground on the touristy beach of Samara. Shade under the palm trees. Cold showers, toilets are borderline. Larger RV's might have difficulties to maneuver through the palm trees and the low-hanging power wire. Great place to swim in the warm sea, to hang out and watch people. Several restaurants and bars right next door, but quiet at night.

(US $ 10 / day. We paid in US $.)
