Description

We found this spot while looking for a place to stay and checking out an unmarked road running off Hwy 2. You have to make a sharp turn onto this dirt road that immediately leads in the woods. Once you get on the road, you can either turn left onto another road that runs parallel with Hwy 2 or go straight. Keep driving straight less than one hundred yards for a great site. As we drove through the woods towards the Kootenai River, some small tree limbs brushed up against my pickup truck very slightly. The road is a little bumpy in some spots and could be muddy during rain season. Four wheel drive wasn’t necessary for us even though it had rained recently. The road leads to a site under trees next to the river that can fit 2-3 trucks or vans. There is a fire pit in this site, but no rocks around it.

if you follow the 2 track to the right along the river, you can camp right on the river off the side of the two track. one other camp set up here in the main area.

It was a nice stop quit. Our Scooby was able to Run free. We found a campsite with shade. Someone had set it up with table sitting and even stairs to the water. Great stop

Really glad we read the previous visitors entry- it was perfect !!! We have 2 dogs that love off leash- so the campground up the road wasn’t for us. This was great- quiet, right on the river, and no one around. Great dispersed site for sure !! We did clean up the trash from the previous camper - which sucks…. But we like to do our part to keep these free sites clean.

The site has a gorgeous view and is situated slightly above the edge of the river with a rough path down to the river. There was a strong current and the water was very cold so we didn’t attempt to get in.

We did see several animal carcasses along the side of another dirt road that leads away from the site and connects with the road that runs parallel with the highway. It would be wise to be very cautious with your children and pets and be sure to have bear spray handy, although we did not see any.

There were lots of birds and ducks on and around the water and we enjoyed a very peaceful evening watching the large river trout surface at shoreline directly below our site. This would be a great fishing site.

There is a train track that runs along the other side of the river so our peaceful experience became noisy several times during our stay. You can also gaintly hear vehicles from the Hwy, but this is such an amazing site that it was well worth dealing with.
