Description

A little hidden gem! El Hormiguero is a smaller archeological site but, the entrance is free (donations) and being off the beaten path a little there is a good chance you will have the place to yourself. Bring a book and enjoy the solitude and magnificence of the ruins, watch the monkeys overhead, relax...
The road to get there is pretty beat up and the last 1.5kms are worse (dirt road, lots of ruts and potholes). Worth the detour in my opinion. Didn’t check too much but it looks like there are a few option to sleep along the way ( pull outs, quiet dirt roads...)

Latest Check-Ins

Peaceful and quiet. visited the ruins free of charge and could pitch our roof tent for the night in the parking lot. Absolutely loved it.

Lovely ruins, we were the only ones there. Asked to stay the night which they were a little unsure about, and then said it was ok. 100 pesos for both of us. Seemed a good price seeing as the ruins are free. Nice toilets available. There is another campsite mainly for tents but you could park at and various free pulls off if you’re small before this.
