Chile
If you leave or enter Chile here, that's your border crossing. The papers are checked by the carabineros.
We don't have any photos of this place yet.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Very quick and easy broader crossing from Argentina to Chile. The officers were very friendly and examined our van, but not too throughly. He just looked in some of our drawers in our cooking area.
Report Check-InFor leaving Chile you now need go through salvoconducto procedure in advance -https://pdivirtual.cerofilas.gob.cl (choose Trámites de Migraciones y Policía Internacional and click Iniciar trámite).
For entering Chile it is not necessary but another problem appeared - despite asking for that we were not given PDI paper form which might mean problems on leaving the country as this proof of entering Chile is required. We had to go to Balmaceda crossing and they issued this form for us post factum but it took a good hour...
The officer here was very friendly and helpful and fixed the problem the (young and probably inexperienced) Argentinian officer had caused by taking our motorhome papers and not giving us a copy of the PDI.
(We have seen all kinds of procedures by now so we we’re not alarmed by it..)
Don't forget to check out here if you are heading toward Argentina, you can pass by this place easily. Also, if you are heading down south rethink this route as it's going to be a (very) long and bumpy ride untill Moreno(!). 2wheel drive is OK but on argentinan side not maintained roads.
Report Check-InWe entered from Argentina. quick and easy, friendly agents. not a real aduana, pdi slip is a handwritten paper, just like paso roballes.
sag agent made us a copy of the dog papers since we only had the original.
Friendly officers warned us that road would be too dangerous and suggested to pass through Chile Chico or Raballos. Officer himself nearly had an accident because of the icy road. Not worth it. Argentinian officers didn't let two cars pass due to dangerous road. Supposedly there is a boat once a day at 4pm on a Sunday taking you to Chile Chico (ask for timetable during the week as it is different than on weekends).
Report Check-InTried to cross at Chile Chico (we have a Chilean car in our name), but officials did not want us to pass. Came here instead; much simpler process that took us 15 minutes.
Report Check-InPerfect crossing, one man band. No waiting, noone checked our luggage or the car. If you are a foreigner with a Chilean car (owner) this is a border crossing for you.
Report Check-InStop here to get the "salida" stamp of Chile. We didn't really realize that this was already the Chilean boarder control because it looked like an usual police office at the habour. We had to drive the whole way back when we were almost at the Argentinian boarder... the road to the Argentinian boarder is very good to drive... most of the parts are paved but 1 km before the Argentinian boarder it starts to get worse and this is just the beginning of a 2,5 hours graveled not ending road to Perito Moreno. The boarder control was quick as we were the only ones. But after driving this road we knew why ... a better alternative might be to drive via Chile Chico but we haven't checked that...
