Dead end road with open clearing, suitable for any vehicle that can tackle the road up to the park. We checked the other option further up the road but none were suitable for tent camping.
This place was perfect, we set up under the pine trees and watched the sunset over popo.
Very quiet spot (not even barking dogs!!!) we felt safe enough here. You can hear the road but far enough away to not be seen from the road. Good option for 1 night when going up or down to the volcano.
Nowhere near as cold as the top (it froze up there, down here about 10 degrees, much better!)
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
This place isn’t accessible anymore, the local farmer plowed the access track. See latest photo.
But 150m west is another even better spot, see Popo Views II
Beautiful views. Quiet. Peaceful. However, thinking this is private land? Stayed 3 nights and 4 days. One group of men came to check the land, next day the farmer came to til the land in his tractor.
I spoke to both and asked if it was okay to camp. They both said yes.
Highly recommend if you need a good rest and relax
Report Check-InSpent the night here in view of an “exhaling” Popo. Amazing view. Turn right off the main road onto a track that curves around some fields. Had a few local visitors—one on a dirt bike, one on foot, and one on an ATV.
Report Check-InCame again on a Saturday and ... the spot is a bit too close from the nearby village. Loud music played at night and bangers starting at 5 am :-(
Report Check-InActually, access is not washed out. The track is on the right when you enter the dead end. Nice view but the night was terrible because of loud firework bangs starting as early as 4 am . From 5am, church bells ringing not stop and from 6 am brass band playing loud in the nearby village... a bad night.
Report Check-InWhat a great find. quiet, safe, no dogs not even flies. We spent 2 quiet days here. one of the best spots in Mx so far
Report Check-InUnfortunately could not find this spot. A lot of the road entrances were washed out from the rain.
