Description

Dispersed camping is allowed in many areas of the Tahoe National Forest, including this one, approximately one mile up Conservation Road off Highway 20 outside of Nevada City, Calif. There are numerous pullouts with camping potential, but we went for this fairly large flat corner area and made it our mountain bike basecamp for two nights. With the Pfeiffer Trail literally running through the site, it made for great bike-in/bike-out access to Pioneer Trail, then the area gems Hoot Trail on the north side of Highway 20, and Scott's Flat Trail on the south side of the road. Faint, spotty internet service, no toilets or water, but all-in-all a great boondocking location.

Near the main road, with quite a bit of traffic on the side lane where there’s houses; this spot is used by locals as a meetup place. Mosquito spray recommended!

There are many other great disbursed sites in this general area, so exploring the FS roads will lead you to more private spots that still have easy access to the extensive trail network.
I went a little ways down Rock Creek Rd and stayed in a nice spot for a few nights, though it may be less private on the weekends.
Zero bars Google Fi.

More kind of like a pullout in a dirt parking lot at the intersection of Conservation Road and Rock Creek Road. Not private or secluded at all. Occasional noise from a vehicles driving by during as night.

Report Check-In

Good for a night and for biking. It seems to be the meeting point of forest service workers and when we woke up on Monday morning there were about 10 pick ups and lots of people around. Not a spot to camp longer. Internet super spotty even with booster

Little muddy and snowy with one large rut. Made it through with a Subaru Forester.
