Just outside the NE entrance station to Yellowstone N.P. ( Do not park overnight in the NP outside of open campgrounds. )
In winter, unable to get to other IO sites east of Cooke City. ( Gates Closed. )
-Quiet pull off on side of road.
-Very little / no traffic until morning.
We don't have any photos of this place yet.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Fabulous quick stop to get out late and get in early. All other campgrounds this end of park closed.
Report Check-InSpent a quiet night here, right outside of the park entrance. There were a couple other vehicles. Not sure why this place is marked as closed - there are no signs against overnight parking.
Report Check-InMarked as closed but we didn't see any signs about no camping. Just outside the park. Arrived around 8:30pm and left around 5:30am (to watch the Lamar Valley wolves), so can't speak to how it would be arriving in daylight. 3 others campers parked here as well.
Report Check-InThere were no signs regarding parking, camping etc
I was here for 5 nights September 10-15 after the summer and holiday. During the summer months with massive amounts of visitors I would imagine there are no parking signs posted.
Outside those times. It was the perfect spot to sleep and get into Lamar Valley by 0530 each morning to see wolves and get some photography.
During the time I was there each night there were 5-10 cars, vans, and campers. All photographers. Everyone went to sleep and stayed quiet and we were all gone by 0630.
If you arrive after sunset in the dark as most of us did after a full day of Yellowstone photography you will likely see a cute fox.
Report Check-Inthere’s a sign that says where you cannot camp, but this spot appears to be a-okay. we stayed two different nights— one night there was only 1 other person camped with us, the second night there was about 4. there’s a trail that goes back into the woods, but we didn’t explore to see where it leads. quiet and really close to the Yellowstone NE Entrance. Cooke City is right down the road (a few shops, restaurants and possibly wi-fi). a 2ish hour drive to Red Lodge, Montana via the Beartooth Pass (which is a great drive and town). no at&t. no pit toilets.
Report Check-InQuick overnight for getting out of the park and going back in the next morning. Cars until 10, then again at 7am. Great spot just to crash and not have to drive searching for a camp late at night after photographing bison in Lamar Valley at sundown.
Report Check-InGreat location right by the NP entrance, sign showing where overnight camping is allowed and not allowed, this location is fine to stay at, we spent 1 night here, would stay again
Report Check-InWe stayed here one night. We arrived around 9 pm and there were 4 other vans and a car already parked there. Left around 6 am. No issues. Quiet. VERY close to np.
Report Check-InParking open and no more sign "no overnight parking".
We spent a night here with one other van. No problem, perfect localisation !
Right in front of the gate. nice place. There is a warning for no tents in this area for the next 10 or so miles.
don't do it.
