Description

The best “beach” I’ve seen at Salton Sea, and this abandoned boat launch provides water front access and lots of room to camp, both on and off the beach. Peaceful, quiet, no smells, no bugs, no trash. No wind during our stay. Currently hard packed ground with easy turnaround, but could be different after heavy rain. 3 other RVs present with plenty of distance between. Felt safe. 3 bars of AT&T 5G(E). Exit Niland Marina Road off 111 and drive to the end.

Solid free spot with post-apocalyptic vibes. It rained right before we got here and it was a bit sticky-muddy. Feels and smells like we’re back at the ocean, except don’t swim or fish here, Toxic Avenger.

Beautiful spot, nearly silent with some occasional bird chatter. Nobody close to us, sunset was brilliant. ATT 120mbps down

One of the best spots around the Salton Sea, lots of room allowing you to find some solitude. Peace and quiet.

road is good most of the way it is paved, dirt road just for the last part.
quiet place, some people were there for sunset, only 1 other ar spent the night
nice sunset and sunrise

Our 2nd time staying at this place, we love the sea views. Stayed several days, other campers come & go. had some awesome sunrise/sunsets.
Sea has receded even more in last 2 years. Had one super windy day, others were great.

It was quiet. I stayed down by the old marina launch site. Didn’t go down to the water. From what I understand it is toxic. Occasional whiff of the sulfur.

Great quiet free place on the sea. There are some what look like very long term residence camps as you approach the launch. We saw one other van leaving as we pulled in. We went to the spot at the end of the boat launch and the sand was well packed, no fear of getting stuck in our 2wd. We made a fire with some driftwood. Of course this place has apocalyptic flavors being that the Salton sea is a huge ecological nightmare. But the smell was mild, some trash, and stunning sunset. At 2am a car pulled down the launch and some people were talking quietly, but they soon drove off and didn’t bother us. Glad we stayed.

perfect, quite, a few noises from the train but not bad, nice sea, nice empty area, we are alone, lots of space

A lot of flies and this place does smell. Was only planning on staying a quick night. The nighttime here is amazing! So peaceful and beautiful. Ended up staying a few nights.
Don’t go too close to the water as the sand gets soft and you will get stuck. I would only recommend staying in the few spots that have fire pits

Lots of open areas to camp at. It is pretty sandy, but my 2WD vehicle was able to get to a sandy spot and I didn't get stuck at all. Be careful when it rains. The area seems a little sketchy, but I stayed here for a few nights and felt safe. No one bothered me. I had 4 bars of 5G tombile service and I was able to use my hotspot for work. Overall a good spot to chill for a couple days.

smell like dead fish and lot of fly.
maybe November it's not a good time to get in here.
peaceful place but fly are hungry.

Really cool spot, away from everything. Nice and open!

There's a great documentary about the ecological disaster that is the Salton Sea, and it's surrounding culture: https://youtu.be/8TjGAWxL23c

We stayed here, there are several others nearby, very quiet peaceful, will stay again as we pass through

There are also some other camp set ups that look like they have been here for more than a month 200 yards away

Felt safe, kids had fun

Also there are some pre-existing fire pits, you would need to bring your own fire wood

I really liked this spot. Nice view, plenty of room, couldn't hear other campers though I could see a few. Great sunset.
