Latest Check-Ins

It’s an open parking lot on the Oconaluftee River. There was another camper in here already, and semi trailers with cargo.
Quiet, peaceful night. No signs about overnight parking anywhere in this town. Just a minute from the blue ridge parkway. Excellent cell signal.
Park in and pack out, keep it clean so they don’t close it.

Report Check-In

Parked on the other side of the street next to the baseball field complex. Parked around 8-9pm in a line of several cars - they all eventually left, but I had no issues. Left around 6am to hike Mount Leconte, which was about 40 minutes from this spot.

Report Check-In

Parking lot by the river. Patrol even came by to check on me, and said it was okay to stay overnight, just to be careful. They also recommended I park at the Oconoluftee Visitor Center, which has bathrooms, and is a bit safer. Lots of cars passing, since it's by the road, but that was fine.

I think maybe the lot has changed since the original post. Now it's a parking lot for the island park. Which means it will probably only work for you if you fit in a standard parking space.
That being said, I did stay here a night without any issues. It is right next to the road but still quieter than some rest stops I've been to, especially in the middle of the night. And there are bathrooms in the park with running water, open dawn-dusk or so.

Report Check-In

Spot checks out. Like described, literally right next to the road. I was maybe 5-6 feet from cars passing by. Went to sleep at 10 the road was still kind of busy. Traffic started to die down after maybe 11. Woke up at 5 for hiking in the Great Smoky NP. No one bothered. Good for a night before heading to the park.

Report Check-In

It's next to the road. You will hear cars go by but it's a very easy spot to pull into and stop for the night.
