Fairly flat cleared spot off the “road” with fire ring. The road up is pretty rough, but I made it easily in a 2wd Sprinter, just took my time. 2 bars Verizon LTE (Update: 6/05/23 It has no fire ring and fires are illegal.)
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
This is a shooting area for locals. The road is extremely rocky. I'm surprised someone can get out here with a two wheel drive. It also requires high clearance... Because I have a big truck but I still scraped some rocks. You don't have 360 ° views... You're surrounded by mountains. It's a secure spot to camp but I'd make sure you have a weapon for protection out here. Bullets are all over the ground here.
Report Check-InI wouldn’t suggest going up this road too far if you have a low clearance vehicle or a tall vehicle. Road is very rocky, crawled it at 5mph in a lifted Tacoma on 33’s. I went a bit past the this location and the next one. After this location the road gets worse, not many option to turn around and some of the sites definitely require high clearance to get into. The spot I stopped at was a decent size turn off on the side of the road, enough space for two vehicle. Besides that most options are very small “spots” right along side off the road. There are some other trails you can go down, but again I wouldn’t try it in anything without high clearance. Never had to use 4x4. If you can make it up here, it is very secluded, peaceful and nice views. There is a pit toilet at the beginning of the road.
Report Check-InIt was dark when I arrived at this spot, so I ended up parking in the parking lot shortly after turning down the road. I drove about .6miles down the road and saw a couple pullouts, but nothing I was confident entering in the dark with the amount of washes around.
Was not bothered overnight in parking lot despite no camping signs. Would stay again if needed and felt safe.
I ended up about half a mile short on the coordinates for this one, but it was a great spot just to the side of the road. Beautiful scenery and reasonably manageable road in my 4x4 sprinter.
Report Check-InI think we stopped short of the previous poster's spot. We went up Cottonwood Valley road and found someone already parked in the easy-to-get-to spot to the left, so we went up to the right on a rough, rocky, but passable road another 1/3 mile or so and found a good sized spot with a fire ring. Rocks in road require taking it slow, and high clearance recommended for the last bit, but 2wd is fine.
Report Check-InCould not make it back to the coordinates in our 21 ft RV even going less than 5 mph. Many signs along this road say no camping. Had to stop 1 mile from the destination. Hopefully we don't get a ticket but didn't want to try the return trek in the dark. Definitely no trailers and I wouldn't attempt this in an RV either. Fair warning.
Report Check-InGorgeous out here. Faint glow from LA over the mountain, distant view of hwy 160 headlights. Lots of open, flat-ish roadside spots. I made it up in a rwd chevy van, at like <5mph. Probably not great for my suspension, would definitely recommend high clearance. But hey, I made it — just gotta make it back to the road in the morning!
Report Check-InGreat spot with amazing mountain views, basically level. Made it here in a Prius. Bad cell coverage even with a cell booster.
