Update. Conservation Officer stopped by during the night to let me know that this is technically not a legal campsite. Camping in NY State Forest must be 150 ft from a road unless specific signage says “Camp Here”. He let me stay the night.

Report Check-InAshland Pinnacle is a NYS DEC truck trail that goes over South Mountain, from Greene county to Schoharie County, NY. it's quite steep but manageable in a car or van but better with a four wheel drive vehicle. At the top of the Mt you can drive down an old Civilian Conservation Corp. road to a dead end that has limited views except in the fall or spring. the road is unmaintained during the winter.
