Description

Multiple spots on the Eastern bank of the Cheakamus river with shade by cedars and maple trees! The last part of Paradise Valley Road is narrow, rough and potholed - not suitable for RVs, trailers and low passenger cars. The road has (seasonal) day-time traffic from rafters and hikers.

A hidden gem is Starvation Lake at 30 minutes on foot. Start your hike at the dead end of the road, cross the railroad tracks and keep climbing, following the high tension electricity lines. Bring swimwear (in season): there are two pontoons for easy access to the water..

Don’t forget to pack out what you pack in!

beautiful spot. a number of pull-outs back in this area. right next to the river. road is pretty potted, so either take it slow or have higher clearance. please be respectful to houses on road out and clean up after yourself.

Really beautiful spots along the river. Maybe 4 in total along the actual river. A couple more on the opposite side of the road. Quiet on a Tuesday night. Wednesday morning there were hikers and rafters, some in really large rigs (a school bus came rolling through).

The gravel road in is in rough shape. Washboards and pot holes for a couple miles, which can be minimized if you go slowww. The road then turns to dirt and gets much worse. Very large moguls. Large rocks jut up every so often, one that we hit and got a little worried about. We have a 2WD not-high clearance van, so our fault there, but luckily nothing was damaged. We did get a few pin stripes from surrounding trees. Road is flat and no 4x4 is needed. It’s doable if you’re comfortable with a little scratchy scratch.

The hike is amazing. 100% must do. We also caught part of the salmon run so that was pretty wild. Would recommend this spot, but not for a quick overnight.

So underrated, this was one of our favourite spots so far. So beautiful and the road is slow but definitely doable in a 22ft RV.

There have to be at least 10 spots in between the last private property and the dead end of the rough road. Had traffic all day long, mostly from hikers (who all legally(?) let their dogs off leash). River too fast flowing and cold to swim, but we did swim the lake. Quiet at night (only one other camper in high season July). Loved it here!

Great spot. Need a high clearance vehicle to get there, but 2WD is fine (except for maybe crawling into some of the more difficult sites). I was there on a quiet night, nothing too loud or rambunctious. Folks were letting their dogs off leash.

River side camping at the very bottom of Paradise Valley Road. Last ten minutes into sites gets rough and needs to be driven with caution but well worth it for the bright blue water view. Lots of spots to pull up on. Many other campers when we were there over a weekend but still very quiet and private. Would really recommend.

Amazing beautiful free camp site. We stayed 2 nights, it was quiet during the middle of the week.
Easy access to the river for swimming and water.
There is an amazing walk along the canyons if you walk north past the end of the campsite, about 6-7km to the end and back.
Wouldn’t be super easy to access with big rigs, but campers and smaller RV’s shouldn’t have any issue if you take it slow.

Looked lovely down there but had to walk to see the end of the road because the road itself was so full of rocks and potholes that I scraped the bottom of my car about three times very badly. I have a Dodge Grand Caravan and it was not nearly high enough clearance to make it, and I was going about 2km/hr too. Would say this is a nice spot if you’ve got a high clearance vehicle like a 4X4 or something. Looked nice though.

Rocky pathway to beautiful spot beside the river. 4x4 or AWD highly recommended. Stayed 2 nights. Waters was starting to creep up the path bank from the overflow of the river. No mosquitos at all. Was 40 plus degrees. No issues with partiers or noise at night (arrived Sunday evening).
