Clearing toward Bald Mountain. 5-6 rigs no problem. The sunset was amazing, It can be windy up here so be prepared.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Temporarily closed due to VEPCO high power line installation project. I tried to access the site off of long run road, and they stated all entry into this part of the forest is closed for the rest of 2023. it will reopen after though. please make a note on these as I was really excited to camp here.
Report Check-InGreat spot, lots of use but didn’t run into anyone. Amazing sunrise views. Takes about an hour to get up the road from Folk Run as the other way is closed. Will be back.
Cell service 3 Verizon bars
Lots of piles of toilet paper randomly on trails in woods.. do better
Report Check-InROAD TO ACCESS FROM HARRISONBURG NO LONGER EXISTS - You have to enter from Fulks Run to reach this site. About an hour ride on a gravel road, but I did in my 2004 FWD Toyota hatchback so it's very doable. Probably my favorite spot I've visited on the east coast. Saw one other overlander at another spot on the trail, but driving all the way in is definitely worth it. Ground is flat enough to camp in a tent or in a car right next to a nice fire pit. Unreal sunrise views here. 100% would visit again.
Report Check-InAwesome spot! A tricky drive up a long gravel road, but I was able to do it with my little 2WD sedan the day after a rainstorm. 2 bars, LTE (a little spotty) on T-mobile
As others said, there are road closures so take the forest road from Fulks Run.
Report Check-Insome road closures (workmen said it would be 3 years!) from Harrisonburg, so it's better to access from Forest road from Fulks Run. however, as others have said, the view is amazing and perfect setting for some solitude
Report Check-InWe were able to get our 2wd Promaster up here with no problems. Just a little bumpy so had to drive slow. Our favorite spot so far! 2-3 bars Verizon.
Report Check-InAmazing camping site at over 3,400ft with an epic view. Early evening and morning fog did put a stop to the amazing view, but it is worth the drive up here to camp. Late night winds brought in a bit of rain and a thicker fog. Campsite can easily fit 4-5 vehicles and has two small fire pits. As a previous poster listed it does get windy. Extremely windy.
Report Check-InI went to this spot after weeks of nice weather where it would get up to 70 degrees and I spun out and completely stuck that not even a tow could get me out because of the ice. Do not attempt to go here if your vehicle isn’t 4 wheel drive even in the summer. The drive up is very rocky and there are no places to turn around. Not meant for vans or rvs or low raised cars.
Report Check-InCurrently 18° and headed to bed at 15 minutes to 8. Sunset was amazing and we are looking forward to sunrise over the valley. It can be windy up here so be prepared
