This parking lot is on Google maps as overnight parking. Its fairly level and is right outside the Crazy Horse memorial and 4 miles to the South is the town of Custer. We stayed here two nights without issue. It's adjacent to the highway so some road noise. Also adjacent to 108 mile Mickelson bike trail.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
As described by others. Open lot at the base of crazy horse and off a main road. Slept here with no problems. Had one other person doing the same. It’s also near a bike path which was nice to walk the dogs along. You can hear the traffic but it wasn’t too bad.
Report Check-InAs described, nice big parking lot right outside Crazy Horse. Not too noisy at night.
Report Check-InGreat little spot off the highway. Traffic died down in the night but you can hear it. Google maps will tell you the lot closes at 5, but ignore that. We were one of three vehicles who spent the night…if you’re at Crazy Horse between Memorial and Labor Day, check out the laser light show at night!
Report Check-InDirt parking lot off the side of the highway, right at the entrance to Crazy Horse. We were one of three overnight vehicles and felt completely safe; Verizon cell service was fine. Yes, you can hear the highway noise, but it did get quiet in the middle of the night. Google Maps says that the parking lot closes at 5pm, but we were able to enter/exit as we needed to. If you're visiting between Memorial Day & Labor Day, check out the nighttime laser light show at Crazy Horse! They gave us a pass to come back the next day to see the memorial during the daytime, too.
Report Check-InPerfect dirt parking lot. Spending a few nights here while visiting Mt. Rushmore
Report Check-InThis is a good parking lot with some cell service on AT&T data, Visible and Mint. we stayed after a snow storm and it had not been plowed, so we parked just past the entrance next to the little building. The roads leading to the parking lot we're in very good condition, though (all paved and plowed). Just keep in mind that it may hard to get in and out as winter progresses. No-one bothered us overnight.
Report Check-InVery nice place to stay. A few guys were doing doughnuts in the lot for a good 10 min but they can happen anywhere. Average amount of road noise that shouldn’t be an issue.
Report Check-InNice free place to stay a night or two when all campgrounds and Boondocking sites are full! It’s just a parking lot but it feels safe enough with a gate house next to it. Highway next to it but that made us able to run our generator during 93 degree evenings. Stayed two nights, enough time to see Crazy Horse, Needles Highway, Custer State Park and Mt. Rushmore. Oh and we were the only ones in the lot with our 40’ 5th wheel, when this area is busy because of Sturgis starting in about a week!
Report Check-InIt's a plain, unadorned gravel lot right next to the highway. Lots of road noise, helicopters during the day. The lot attendant today was a lovely gray-haired lady with a friendly smile and lots of advice. Lovely views - can see Crazy Horse from the far corner of the lot (we arrived mid-afternoon and copped the prime corner). Horses on the other side.
Report Check-InGravel parking lot directly outside of Crazy Horse monument. Park attendant said it was ok to stay here. Some road noise but dies down at night. You can hear the music from the nightly laser show at the park and partial view of Crazy horse. Also if you like to cycle this lot is an entrance to the Mickelson Trail. Any size rig can fit.
