We stayed here in May of 2018. It was a nice spot. Great views of the sunset to the west. The rocks get warm and stay warm, but you can climb them for even better views. The spot is tucked away off the dirt track that passes by this spot, but realistically, how many people are gonna bother you?

what an amazing place to camp. tons of room in the Mojave National Preserve. do many places to park and camp. out in the open and up against the lave rocks. roads in are rocky and sandy, but most vehicles could make it. we are in a 25 foot hightop Mercedes Sprinter. high clearance is suggested though. we parked in a cove in the lava rocks that had a firepit. scenery is the valley with lava rocks everywhere and surrounded by lava mountains. most of the area has 5g. Report Check-InNestles in with a bunch of lava rock. Lots of roads coming in look pretty sandy, so plan your route carefully. The road I took was fine and I had no issues getting in.
Report Check-InGreat quiet place that is secluded with nice fire pit and level spot. You can see the Interstate far off in the distance. Which means there is cell service! Lava flow is pretty cool.
Report Check-InI made it to this site in my 2WD Sprinter (i.e. reasonably high clearance) but took a different route omw out and had a bit of a heart-pounder, deep-sand moment.
If going here without 4WD, plan your route carefully.
