Description

*Seasonal Closures?
Dispersed camping on the side of a hill among juniper trees with distant views of Mount Hood and Mount Bachelor. Sites are fairly level. Nice Dry River Canyon hike starts at the turnoff from US 20 and follows the bottom of the canyon alongside this bluff. (The dispersed sites are legal year round, but the edge of the canyon and the trail at the bottom are off limits Feb 1-Aug 31 to protect nesting raptors). Can’t see or hear the highway from here.
Good Verizon signal.
Turn north from US 20 towards the Badlands Rock Trailhead. Stay on the paved road about a mile. When you pass the first rock outcropping on your right, turn right onto the sandy 2-track road.. (Just after the outcrop, I think I saw tracks going into the outcrop as well.). The first two pullouts are suitable for all vehicles except buses or long trailers. After that, 4WD recommended and high clearance required, although we got up here in our 24’Class C with some scratches from the brush.

Latest Check-Ins

Several camp sites with fire pits around the area. Nice and quite, just a bit of noise from the highway.

Report Check-In

It was a little Windy at the end of May but the views were great.

Report Check-In

Took a left at the Badlands Wilderness sign and drove about 1/4 mile down the paved road. Spots are at the first sand road on the right. No, ‘no camping signs’ Several awesome wide open spots with great views and fire pits. Rock formations and lots of juniper trees. A bit exposed to the wind, had a hard time sleeping in tent due to wind noise. Overall, a great, secluded and peaceful spot to camp. Will visit again.
