GPS is 2 5 miles from Flying J at exit 39 on I40. Dirt road is great until going past forest service gate and goes down rapidly in quality. The GPS spot is as far as I dared in my Caravan. Another few spots if you stay straight past gate. A 2wd pickup, with ground clearance, could go anywhere. 3-4 bar Verizon data signal.

Latest Check-Ins

Gate is closed but we were able to turn around and park our 26’ travel trailer in front of the gate. It’s very muddy so we had to use 4wd. Would not have been a problem, but we had to go from the truck to the trailer and picked up 10lbs of mud on our boots. If you’re in a van or such type of vehicle where you don’t have to get out, it’s perfect. I wouldn’t try it in a car or a non 4x4 just because of the mud (This may depend on the time if the year). If you’re a light sleeper, you’re still close enough to the highway and train tracks that you can hear them (We can sleep through anything, so not a problem for us). It’s pretty level in front of the gate.

Report Check-In

Nice chill spots, very easy to get to from the highway. Road was easy going - not badly rutted or hard to pass while I was here.

Report Check-In

Rolled in around midnight. The wind whistles a bit and a train wails in the distance. Far enough off the highway to be quiet yet close enough to be convenient.

Report Check-In

Small pullouts off a fairly smooth dirt road — many campsites available. We came maybe a mile or so back off the road running parallel to the highway. 4-5 washes on dirt road for rainwater — be very wary if rain is forecasted or if it has just rained. One was very rough even dry and would probably be impassable without 4WD — giant ruts! Pretty views and very quiet. Didn’t hear any noise all night whatsoever.

Report Check-In

Very good spot for the night! I keep the left after the gate and park at the second spot. Open till December 15th…

Report Check-In

IT'S OPEN. It's closed from December15 to March 31 (see picture). I slept here last night with a 25' travel trailer. Was really quiet and I was alone here. The view is amazing.

Report Check-In

This place IS NOT CLOSED. There are folks not from the area that don't seem to be able to comprehend fire season when high winds and low humidity cause closures to protect the area. They also fail to understand that the area might be closed in winter due to ass deep snow and the rangers don't want to have to rescue them.

Report Check-In

This place frequently gets flagged as permanently closed. Usually, it is during the winter when it is closed due to winter conditions.....it always opens in the spring. This time it was closed due to drought conditions causing extreme fire hazards. Guess what? It rained. A quick 2 minute phone call to the Rangers office has confirmed it is, as of 1350 09/09/2022 OPEN. Temp closures are NO reason to flag somewhere as permanently closed.

Report Check-In

Pulled up to the gate. It was locked and said the Forest was closed due to high fire alert. There were two other vans parked outside the gate, so I found a spot and settled in. Beautiful until the Sherrif pulled in and threw us out.
Moved across the street to Flying J. Not nearly as nice scenery, but think it will do for the night.

Report Check-In

We came back to this spot to see if the gate was open and it was so we drove through it and kept left to find a nice little pull off with a beautiful view! They must have recently redid the road so it's in great condition (completely doable in 2WD) as of May. There are multiple pull offs to the left and right of the road with good distance from other campers. We stayed one night and planned to stay another but were asked to leave because the fire danger is so high they closed the national forest that morning. So maybe check online before going. Good Verizon reception. Highly recommend this spot!

Report Check-In

I just arrived. The site is still open and I havent seen anyone here. Looks great!

Report Check-In

Easy to get to, great cell service (AT&T and Verizon). Very quiet (we were the only ones here when we pulled in, woke up and saw 2 other vehicles). There was a tiny stone fire pit where we parked for the night.

Report Check-In

Good stop over spot just a couple miles off I40. 32 foot with toad got to the first three spots without difficulty.

Report Check-In

Drove to this spot, but the gate was closed and the spot outside the gate was already taken so we left. There was a road that went up to the left of the gate, but we didn't want to chance it in our 2WD Promaster.

Report Check-In

about a mile drive from the freeway on a gravel road to this spot.

when we got here the gates were closed, it says its closed until March 11.

Report Check-In

As of 12/20/2020, the gate to the BLM land was closed but several folks had parked outside the gate for the night.

Report Check-In

We just landed here at dusk needing a place to sleep during a transit. Maybe 5 minutes off the highway on a good dirt road to where we setup at the corral. Far enough from the interstate to be quiet. Be conscious of rain as the road in goes through a couple small washes that could run with heavy rain or get muddy with a little rain. 26’ Trailer on a Ram 3500 Diesel Dually.

Report Check-In

I don’t recommend this place if you don’t have 4WD. The road is challenging with 2WD.

Report Check-In

Nice dispersed camping. Very little noise from the Interstate 40. The road further up looked fine for any car, although we did not drive it. We camped right next to the road by the corral.
