Description

This is quite possibly one of the most beautiful spots in this area. Wide open space super clean please keep it that way and tons of grass with plenty of water options available. No cell service or facilities but who’s care it’s epic!

Latest Check-Ins

There are a few spots on the way to this spot and only 1 beyond it. Not far past the site the road is closed and not even enough room for a camp there because you would block the gate. It's a nice spot but personally have been in much better so I was disappointed based on the rave reviews.

Very good road all the way to the campsite. I am riding solo on at Suzuki DL1050xt adventure bike with full camping gear. It was raining when I arrived and is expected to all night. Hung a tarp and hammock to stay dry. Doesn't seem to be any bugs at 50F.

Surprised when my Google Fi worked from the site.

This is my first time using this data, which was on my garmin zumo xt. Very convenient.

This place is so peaceful. Easy to get to, most vehicles should have no trouble. Both walnut flats campground and other FS sites are closed at this time of year, but if this place is occupied there are some other pulloff sites further down Dismal Creek Rd. Though the whole meadow has a gentle slope, there are a good 3-4 flat spots for vehicles or 6+ flat spots for tents spread out across the meadow. Traffic was almost nothing on the road that passes by. There is a 5gal bucket pit toilet into the woods up the hill which was better than digging a cat hole. Lots of good hammock spots. Easy walk to Dismal Creek from the site. Some foraging to be had too! (fiddleheads and usnia)
The biggest downside is that the place was littered with trash and broken glass... not a barefoot friendly site. Please clean up everything you came with and then some! Bring an extra trash bag or two and fill it with what you find! Locals or passers through don't seem to have any pack in/pack out ethic so let's show 'em how it's done :)

definitely a good spot. it's a pull off from a the Lion Den road(gravel). there has been some stuff left by other people (Idk if it's trash or something still needed by someone ). Since the further end of this road is close to motor vehicles it's rather quiet

great dispersed camping in george washington and jefferson national forest. up the road from a beautiful pull off spot that leads to a very short downhill hike to the falls of dismal that you don't want to miss ( youll see a sign)! stayed here one night in our lifted ford ecoline. we dont have 4x4 and the tires spun a bit trying to get positioned in a flat spot at this site, but we made it work. it was spring and had rained recently so that ground was a little muddy. plenty of room for our cat and dog to run around away from the road. a nice trail across the road that leads to a creek spot. someone drove up in a van to try to park next to us but we kindly asked them to move on and they found another spot down the road. a bit of trash but not extreme. the only bad thing i would say is that it isnt very flat, but you can find a few pretty flat spots.

Beautiful and peaceful spot. Large site for multiple rigs. The Appalachian Trail passes through about a mile from the campsite. Sprint has good signal but none with Verizon.

Report Check-In

Nice, remote camping space! there was trash when we go there, so that was a little disappointing. Leave no trace!
No cell service with Verizon

Nice spot. Room for plenty small vehicles/tents. There was a lot of trash when I arrived. Cleaned all It up... let’s keep this clean! There is also another camp right around the bend of the road.

Report Check-In

There is a big uneven spot on the right that was full of campers when we got there. The second spot is further down on the left. That is where we stayed. Fairly level ground. Large fire ring. No verizon service. Be prepared for almost 5 miles of gravel road with large potholes. Stream nearby.

Yep, this is heaven. Quiet, secluded and we even had some internet. Can’t ask for more than that!
