Description

Downtown stealth camping, on E West Street. Beautiful little town, nice location, under a canopy of oak trees, on the side of an old school gym, now a rec center. Very quiet. Arrived after dark, left at dawn.

Report Check-In

This spot is between Franklin Square Park and Southport City Gym. We arrived after dark and left early the next day. Off season. No signs. No bathrooms. Great location near restaurants and bars. *Probably only ok for one night at a time*

I arrived at the spot in the review. it was hard to determine where the parking was. I drove to the waterfront park on Bay st. free unrestricted parking. it is way off season. i figured i would walk the dog and make dinner then then move to the spot later. there were a few people around. no one seemed concerned or even interested in the van or me. I ended up staying there all night. no issues.

We camped just down from this spot alongside the park... felt like we were gonna get the “knock” but we never did and had a nice quiet night.

There is sorta Wi-Fi depending on the spot, and clean, cold bathrooms open during daylight hours. Very cute town with nice people and good seafood along the pier. Easy town to spend several days in.

This spot is actually beside a church. Fairly secluded and quiet until the associated scout troop showed up at 6:00 am to pack their trailer for a weekend outing! They were a friendly bunch, and had already looked up our logo online before we could roll down the window and say hello. We had relocated here after being rousted from the waterfront parking lot by the friendly local police at 4:30 am. There are no postings re: parking restrictions or prohibitions but they cited a city ordinance and recommended we go to the Walmart for the few hours of darkness that remained.
