Nice quiet camping spot. We have a site with electricity and water for $25. Very interesting area to explore if I can survive the gnats. Bring bug spray! The town of Cedar Key is close by and is worth visiting.

Great spot. We got a primitive spot with our camper being we didn’t need water/electricity so only$10! Hiked in cedar key shrub reserve, mound trail and drive to cedar key. Great spot nice host. Boats come in around 7:00am but otherwise quiet. No issue with bugs. Would stay again.

Stayed on site 13 one of 4 reserved for the night. Temperatures in the high 60's today and no problems with bugs. The campground is a small decent place and super quiet during my stay. The lady working office was super friendly. Bathroom is in decent shape toilets and showers are very clean. 2 short hiking trails one is 1/2 mile and the other is 1 mile if I remember correctly. My site was just an 30 Amp electric site for $20. a night.

As described by the others

The bugs are no joke. bring plenty of bug spray with you but if you forget, they have it in town at a a few stores. buy the local stuff. it works.

only negative was fishermen/boaters coming in at 630am and needlessly revving the engines of their "emotional support vehicles" but I suppose that's just the Song of The South these days 🙄

well worth the $ and drive!

Low key and excellent water access. I stayed here on a Saturday and then a Monday/Tuesday. Saturday I still found a site at 5:30 pm with a few options, but it was definitely full by 7. Standard campground noise till about midnight. When I came back Monday after striking out at Horseshoe Bay, Manatee SP, and Shired Island, I had plenty of options and overall I just really love the vibe here. There’s a nice mile loop trail you can run/walk from camp and the water is a stones throw away. I carried my boat from my spot in 2 minutes! I don’t feel stressed or annoyed here. Cedar Key town is just 20 min away with some awesome restaurants if you want it. I have decent data w/ T-Mobile. Owners are very nice.
No complaints and a safe bet for weary travelers!

Cons: No-see-ums will shred you if you think you're going to wear t-shirt & shorts without using "Deep Woods Off." No sewer at campsites, only electric and water - and not all have that. 12 minute drive into town (Cedar Key) to get necessities you may have forgotten. (no store close by). Most sites are not level. It's first come first serve - no reservations.
Pros: Remote small campground! Beautifully situated with gorgeous views of the bay. Shell Mound trails and small boardwalk just .25 mile down the road - you can access the trail on the other side of the road in front of the campground! Extremely quiet during the week, a bit louder on the weekends. Gail at the front desk is friendly, makes you feel at home, and is awesome!.Hiking, biking, kayaking, boat ramp, it's all here!

nice spot as described in other reviews. I got here Friday afternoon and had my pick of site since there were only a few other guests here, the the front desk said that was unusual for a weekend, so your experience may vary.

i would like to add that they offer a generous 50% discount for active duty and retired military. my cost to stay for 4 days with electric hookups only came to $40. will definitely be visiting again.

This is a must add to your itinerary! First come sites with power ($20) or power/water ($25) and also primitive tent camping ($10). They also have facilities and a dump station. While staying, you can walk several nature trails and check out Shell Mound. It is only about 5 miles in to Cedar Key where you can stop at the Tiki bar for sundowners (sunset drinks) before heading into town for amazing seafood and views of the Gulf of Mexico.

Pack your bug repellent bc the no see ums here are thriving! But, with a bit of a breeze they aren’t too bad.

Small county park next to a boat launch. Very popular with air boats. Some stay at the campground. Sites are closely packed but many are big-rig accessible. Attendant on site. Water/electric at some sites. Best to park first and walk around to size up the sites and utilities before chosing. If you want solitude this campground isn't for you, though it is scenic.

Report Check-In

Nice camp ground. No one was here, so camped out for the night for free. Bugs got a little rough just after sunset. Beautiful star gazing and a nice little park down a dirt road to catch a sunset over the gulf.
