In the winter barely any cars passed by. There’s no facilities nor verizon or att service. Small rvs and vans would be fine here.
There's no more passes available at the NP Big Bend and backcountry camping is $10/night, some sites are first come first served, others are available only through the recreation.gov website or app.

We spent a very quiet night here. There are a few trees scattered to provide shade. We didn't hear any vehicle traffic at all during the night. Garbage cans and picnic tables on site.
Report Check-InWonderful place to stop near Big Bend NP. Tables and trash cans and it's very quiet at night. it's pretty close to the road though so in the morning it gets noisier but overall it's an awesome rest stop. I would definitely stay again.
Report Check-InLovely overnight spot! Very serene, peaceful and lots of solitude. The drive to the area was lovely just before sunset. No facilities, but someone came by in the AM and emptied the trash cans which was nice. (It was a Monday morning.) Beware, there were LOTS of stickers in the dry grassy area in late January.
Report Check-InThis spot is close to the road but super quiet and dark. There are two of these picnic areas closer to Alpine TX on the way to Big Bend. They are within a few miles of each other and about 1.5 hours to Big Bend entrance.
Report Check-InRight next to the road but was quiet on a Saturday night, we were the only people there. Lots of space and no amenities but it’s free, a good spot to stop if your heading out or into BBNP.
The Elephant Mountain campground was closed for the month of March but looked like it would also be a basic but good option.
Report Check-InNice somewhat private rest stop. local sheriff I spoke to said it was ok. there are no facilities. There was trash bins but the are a still gets random pieces of scattered trash. please pick up after yourself. Also, if you have a pet, be aware of local javelinas. Saw a pack of 8 roaming the area.
Report Check-InIf you didn’t buy a $12 annual pass for the camping near by, this restaurant stop is great. In the winter barely any cars passed by. There’s no facilities nor verizon or att service. Small rvs and vans would be fine here.
