Latest Check-Ins

I stayed at Tranquilitas for one night. I'm not a climber nor an active mtb'er. I guess it is a great place if you're into one of these. Still, it's got all I need. The campground is well maintained, plenty of hot water in their clean ablution blocks, etc.
I was disappointed in their unnecessary reference to cross-eyed persons in one of their notices in the men's restroom. I found this offensive!
A bigger gripe: when I was leaving on my motorbike, riding slowly from my camp spot past the ablution block and cottages towards the exit, a family's German Shepherd attacked me. I'm a seasoned traveller on two wheels and managed to thwart the attack before any harm was done. The owner of the dog refused to acknowledge there was a problem with his dogs behaviour. German Shepherds were bred as guard dogs and can be extremely aggressive. Seeing a dog of this kind charging towards one with complete disregard to its owners calls is scary, to say the least.
This campground is pooch friendly and I applaud that. I love animals and especially dogs and am pleased to see dogs welcomed on the premises. However, they need to be kept under control, especially potentially aggressive breeds. And not just take the owners word that their dog is harmless.

nice place. we used the access road from the north which was painfull for our Sprinter van: gravel with lots of pot holes 4x4 not needed. People toll us the road from south is better and saves 100 Rand toll on the Highway. cellphone coverage very bad. The perfect place for climbers.

i think the previous reviews are made by the owner of this place. cheeky.

regardless, it's a nice camp. showers are donkey powered and limited to a few minutes per person. 100 rand per person per night to camp. there's a small kitchen with gas stoves. nice shady spots with power points. there have been some security issues here in the past.

expect to pay

This amazing site is a little ways off the highway, but is well worth it. It is famous amongst the South African climbing community and well known for mountain biking, but is great even if you don‘t do these activities. The view is great and there are also nice hiking trails. In 2020 it cost 60ZAR per person per night.
