very easy passing both aduanas coming from Chile. No controls. We got 240 day for our camper.

Long queue to check out of Argentina on a summer Sunday afternoon. We arrived about 12:30 and sat in the queue for about an hour and a half before doing the formalities. Once in, well organized and they moved through people quickly. Try to arrive earlier than we did!

Report Check-In

Entering Argentina, took us about 15 minutes, very smooth. Wednesday at 2pm. First time they wanted to add our bicycles.

Checking out of Argentina was very easy. Well organized border crossing. Park your rig on the giant lot, go to migraciones to check out your passport, then get in line at the aduanas next door to cancel the TIP, line went really fast. We always ask to take a pic of the cancelled TIP, just in case.

They did not look in our camper but the migration insisted of having an hotel/camping reservation. We have never been asked on the five/six crossings befor but they did not care. After staring at each other for several time, the lady told me that she doesn’t need a real reservation I just have to tell her something. So did I. Something in Villa La Angustora on iO. Stupid …

Entering Argentina: at least a bit better organised than the Chilean side. However still very crowded, took us again 1,5 hours (plus the 4 hours on the Chilean side). Open from 8am to 7pm. Very friendly officers, and they didn't investigate our camper 😜

Entrada na AR. Muito rápido. Nem revistaram o carro.

Simple process. Chile to Argentina. After exiting Chile and getting your Chile passport exit stamp and cancelling your vehicle TIPs drive 40 km to this Argentina aduana. Stop at gate, they write your license plate number down on a checklist. Drive ahead to the aduana, park inside and they'll first enter your passport into the computer, then ask for your email address. You DO NOT get an entry stamp, instead you'll receive one vial email about 30 minutes later. Proceed to the next window, show then your original vehicle title and get your vehicle TIPs. Then proceed to the exit gate give him your completed checklist and you're done. Bathrooms were available onsite, did not see a money exchange.

Covid update - drove up to see if AFIP might give us a new TIP. Friendly and understanding but couldn't help. Border is CLOSED to all traffic except cargo. You cannot leave Argentina here, and AFIP cannot give a new TIP unless you leave Argentina, enter Chile, then return to Argentina. He said he thinks AFIP will issue a new decree soon about extending TIPs but that was just a guess.

A little waiting time because of many people crossing the boarder, all officers very friendly and helpful. No problems. Didn‘t ask for insurance nor did they check the car. Maybe we were lucky, as a large tourist bus arrived while we passed.

We waited 3 hours here! Their system is super inefficient so a bit frustrating to have been waiting here forever but be prepared for this when planning your travels.

Canadians, Australians, and those from the United States must pay a reciprocity fee to enter Argentina. When we arrived they told us we were supposed to buy it online in Chile at the other border and that we wouldn't be allowed in without the voucher. They also said there was no internet or reception at the Argentinian border. Eventually the manager let us use a computer with really slow internet to do it. Might be a problem on a busy day or with different staff, recommend buying online in advance and printing voucher. 78USD for Canadians, good for something like 10 years.

Border Crossing is only open between 8:00 and 18:00. Guards on both sides are really nice but we spent 2,5 hours (including the beautiful drive between the two crossings) until we were done. Motorcycle wasn't searched at all.
