Latest Check-Ins

This is closed. The owner of Zihul does not do this anymore and the neighbor who bought it from him also does not do it anymore.

Report Check-In

Incredibly kind hosts & very secure- you’re safely tucked behind concrete walls and a closing gate. Got some inside info that they actually have security that watches the property from a two-storey window across the street.
I was given an extension cord with outlets (not shore power but was all I needed) at no extra charge.
Showers are admittedly cold and the water pressure was pretty grim but free power made up for it. Would stay again for sure.

Report Check-In

We happily returned to stay at Zihul's Spondylus Campground after first staying there in March after doing a whale tour (Whale Magic) on which he was the guide. The walled compound camp he has built also houses his family's home, and is clean, and with character. Showers aren't more than warm, but the place is clean and we love his family and his spirit of artisan style. His knives are top notch, and his new/expanded shop (across the street) is worth a visit. Really nice and cool.

The campo has sand courtyard, and Zihul is planting trees etc. and building it steadily. Gated entry adds privacy/security. The only downside we see find is the neighborhood noise at night. This was largely due to staying there on holiday nights (Christmas Eve was a celebration literally all night).

We largely returned to do one of Zihul's cave painting tours, which was truly a wonderful addition to our month in Baja. I would recommend it to anyone, and further shows what a special part of GN he and his family are.

Report Check-In

Secure, quiet parking in owner’s walled “front yard.” Flush toilet and shower. Easy walk to town for groceries, laundry, etc.
Zihul is very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. He can also arrange whale watching or trips to see cave paintings. Across the street from the camping area Zihul’s gallery/store with hand made knives, hatchets, jewelry, Excellent Baja Maps, and other things. A great resupply/rest stop.

Report Check-In

As mentioned already, Zihul is very friendly and welcoming. Happy to support him and his business with $20/night camping at his backyard. We came on a Friday, and had the whole camp to ourselves. Zihul has chairs, table and shades setup for travelers to use. And the bathroom and shower were very clean. Shower was a trickle, but it did the job.

Zihul totally deserves your business. H.e created a nice place to stay overnight in town. Clean and very friendly. He continues to improve the site so we were happy to support him with the 20$ (400 peso) camp fee.

Super friendly and helpful owner. Clean shower and bathroom. He said laundry available. We did not use. Only stayed 1 night. Perfect for vans but Not really suitable for large rigs. Lot is soft sand. My 24’ class c spun out climbing hill into parking. I was able to back down and take another run. Problem is the gate. I had about 1cm (1/2 inch) clearance on each side of my mirrors. I did drag going up the little hill. I doubt anything longer would make it. Town is built on a sand dune. Sites are soft sand. I sunk over an inch (2cm). Other than the size restrictions I would recommend. Quiet, safe, and usable WiFi. A bit pricy at 400 pesos with no hookups.

Report Check-In

A lovely, safe place to stay with basic amenities and a warm welcome with lots of advice for the area (English speakers). They are putting a lot of work into it and I'll definitely return.
I was able to pull in with a 23ft RV towing a 14ft trailer (for the motorcycle). It was tight but doable.

Report Check-In

It is a great place for a city stop. The guy’s are nice and the sanitary (shower + toilets) are clean.

Report Check-In

Nice spot. Still working on getting the bathrooms set up (no hot water). But the owner is super nice, it’s small, and nice grounds.

Zihul is a good source of info on the area. Ask him about Rancho Chinga and google that (it's not what you think). We might try and roll out there to visit the ranch, but I bet he can tell you all about where to go in Baja.

Report Check-In

We stayed here on 12/10/2021. Clean and comfortable. Zihul is super friendly and very knowledgeable about the surrounding area. He gave us some great suggestions for off the beaten path places to visit.

Report Check-In

Very comfortable place to camp, away from the noise and the wind. Showers and internet run well. I was also allowed to make a little fire next to my camping spot, which was very nice as the night came on.
