Free camping on BLM land. Just off hwy 6 about a mile. Ancient petroglyphs on the rock wall in the wash. Some hwy noise and a nearby mine was working when I was there, but it was still very peaceful. Petroglyphs we saw y drew helming but worth the walk down into the wash. For the geologist out there, appears to be some sort of igneous rock with small inclusions rarely found but some interesting large scale cleavage perhaps hexagonal.

Just a little down the dirt road from the petroglyph trailhead. One bar. Not many spots. In a wash. Could be trouble if it rains or snows. Beautiful views.
Report Check-InAccurate description based on others. Stayed one night at the petroglyphs trail head. 1 bar of LTE that was a bit spotty. Be aware that part of the road right before you turn left down to the trailhead had a pretty deep washout. Could be troublesome for low clearance vehicles. Slight highway noise but was rewarded with beautiful views of the sierras in the morning.
Report Check-InConfirm everything said. Would add some detailed instructions. Drove onto petroglyph road for 1 min until it took a 90 degree turn right. Took a LEFT onto less used dirt road, drove about 1 min and took a right onto very unused road until it terminated at the edge of a wash and camped here. What wasn’t mentioned are the fantastic views of the sierras to the west. It is March of a record snow year and snow is covering everything 7000’ and above. We were forced down this way because of this but views are worth the lack of hot springs:) There appears to be some columnar jointing in some of rocks.
Report Check-InPulled in, found didn’t stay. Was one other truck in the area and felt a little off. But would have stayed if alone- Hardly visible petroglyphs but still there. Hard to make out.
