Amazing national park with unique vegetative features found no where else in Baja. Put toilets abundant and camping areas with fire rings and picnic tables. Cultural centre looks great but was closed at the time of visit. Great hiking trails and areas to explore. If you are making the trek up this road, please support the national park and be very careful only have fires and collect wood in designated areas.

We stayed here for 2 nights. It’s still 54 pesos per person per day, observatory is still closed. It’s really quiet and gets really chilly at night! We loved it! We saw condors, deer, coyotes and heard lots of birds.

Loved this national park. The road is completely paved so it's pretty easy to reach. Campsite spots are small and perfect for tents, if you drive anything larger than a L3H2 Sprinter van it will be difficult to find a spot.
The best spots to camp are in zona 4, I think it's called El Aguilar. It's the first dirt road to the right. We went with our dog and it was not a problem. There are no dog signs at the start of the hikes. We were all alone in the park but kept our dog on leash. There were coyotes roaming the camp site, we saw one in the morning and two around sunset at about 20m from our van (try to find one on the photo I added). We also saw deer, lots of birds, and yes, on our way back 5 condors circling the valley!

Go there, you'll love it!

The distance between the campground and the Altar trailhead is 10 kilometres. National observatory still closed (April 2022). We did not care for the other attractions, they may or may not be available. We were the only guests. We didn't see any condors.

High Sierra climate: cold nights and changing fresh winds during the mornings, quieter late afternoon.

Price: day use MXN 54 per person per day. Overnight camping implies two day charge for the first night. We (2 people) stayed two nights and paid MXN 324 (2×3×54) in total.

The road to observatory and the cultural centre are closed due to Covid. You cannot drive all the way to the observatory. The views coming up are stunningly beautiful particularly at the condor lookout.

We’ve not had the timing that worked to overnight here but we have lunched and strolled a few times. We can’t wait to stay sometime and explore even more. It is just gorgeous.

Parque abierto de 7am a 8pm. Entrada principal por carretera transpeninsular. No usar la que marca GPS por San Felipe. Dejé un punto Overlander indicando la entrada principal. Todo asfaltado. Ver imágenes con la ubicación.

Park open from 7am to 8pm. Main entrance at Penninsular site. Don't follow GPS sending you to San Felipe. Here all paved road. I put an Overlander point where the entrance is located. See images with location.

Much of the park is open every day now and is 50 pesos pp including camping. The visitor center & observatory are still closed and you can't drive the entire road. At 8200 feet, the temps are cool and good for hiking. El Altor seems to be the most popular trail. We saw rabbits, deer, lots of birds & coyotes. Very quiet and few people in the park. Friendly staff and a unique spot in Baja.

As of end of 2020- Park CLOSED due to COViD 😞😞 now warning or signs to indicate this on the drive up. Lucky it was still scenic and beautiful. But of a let down though

Beautiful spots to camp in the woods. Ranger told us it's allowed to collect firewood for campfire. Also, water is available at ranger Station.

nice place but let down by a couple of dogs wandering around, despite no dogs signs. There were no other guests so they must have been from a park employee. Also met a young guy from the park hiking with his cellphone full blast reggaeton, heard him long before we met him.
Cold at night, 0 C inside the camper at 7am
Also be aware the observatory is closed on Wednesday.
Road no problem with F-350 & truck camper but only a small number of campsites are accessible for this size of vehicle, we are 26'.

Beautiful place in the National Park. There is so much space, that you can't even see your neighbours. In these days we haven't got any neighbours ;) The road up here is long, you should get fuel before you come up.

Entry is now 68 pp, camping included. Access road is all paved and no problem unless you are undermotorized. Wonderful area for hiking. The walk to the viewpoint "Altar" and back takes about 2.5 to 3 hours, great views. With some luck you can see condors, there are about 40 in the national park. We saw 5 of them - impressive birds!

Can’t say enough good things about this place. Price is still the same (M$64). Had the park to myself on weekdays, then noticed a whole bunch of people driving in as I was leaving on Saturday. Not sure if they just go for the day, or camp out. While it was mild at first, it was snowing as I left. When you do the Mirador hike, make sure to go to both viewpoints. And yeah (eh-hem), I saw a condor.

Beautiful campground. We were by ourself; Lots of space, fire pits, tables. A bit chill at night and very warm during the day. Get ready for lots of mosquitos. We went to the observatory and had a look at the view but couldn't get inside. We did the 8 km hike to the main viewpoint: stunning.

Wonderful quiet place (except semana santa) with lots of nature, perfect for relaxing, watching animals and hiking. The 80km to the park from San Telmo are fully paved and well maintained, the views are amazing and the landscape changes from desert to high Sierra pine woods on 2400m. The street is sometimes very steep and it is narrow, so take your time. Big rigs won't fit, but with a medium sized Sprinter Van it was no problem. Price per person per day is now 64Pesos, camping is included, a little tour at the observatory is free. The campground is large, lots of very natural sites with fire pits, picnic tables and barbecue grills. No water no electricity and only pit toilets, so bring your own water& toilet paper. If you want to stay longer,also bring enough food&warm clothes. You can hike to 2 viewpoints, the Torre de las piedras (ca.2h, easy) or the Mirador El Altar (ca.3-4h, steep in the beginning) and have wonderful views over the desert, the pacific and the highest Baja mountain Picacho. if you want to know more about the history, there is a small museum, that you can visit for free on weekends. Ask the rangers, if they open it for you on weekdays too, they are very friendly.

This place is awesome! It was 56 pesos per person for entrance and that included camping and if you get there in the right hours (10-1 and 2-3) you can also tour the observatory. The road up is very windy and also steep in sections, be sure your brakes are in order and your cooling system as well. It is almost 10,000 ft in altitude so it's cold at night, and thus plan accordingly.

This is a well established national park at a high elevation. There are cabins for rent or you can pay to park in a large designated camping area. $56pesos per person per day. On site is a national observatory, ropes course, mountain bike trails, museum and an overlook. The road is an exit off highway 1 that winds up through the mountains. It is VERY steep grade in some areas and sharp turns that might challenge a long rig. No services so plan for needs and cold weather.

Beautiful mountain park covered with conifers and huge boulders. Very windy 100km entrance road, but worth it. Campground to ourself, plenty of firewood, pit toilets, a bit chilly at night

Huge sites spread in the forest. Similar to a US National Parks with bench/table combination and fire pit. Some pit toiles are spread in the forest.
